STUDENTS at Burnt Mill Academy, in Harlow, are signing up for after-school clubs as they reopen after lockdown.
More than 50 Year 7 to 11 students are attending each club, including the launch of a football club for the youngest year group.
Doug Hynd, head of PE, said: “Since returning from Easter holidays, the PE staff have been running after-school clubs to provide students with the additional opportunity for physical exercise and a return to organised sport. The attendance has been fantastic from all year groups.

“The lunchtime football club for Year 7 is highly attended each day. It is great to see so many students enjoying playing sport and having a physical release during their lunchtimes, as well as the social interactions students are having while playing.
“During lockdown, it has been difficult for a lot of students to exercise and participate in sport regularly, which has had an impact on their physical, emotional and social wellbeing.
“The return of extra-curricular clubs has seen a great rise in participation and opportunities for students, having a positive impact on their overall wellbeing.”
