GCSE art students in Year 9, 10 and 11 at Burnt Mill Academy, in Harlow, heard how former student Charlie Dixon has got on since leaving the school.
Charlie works as a medical illustrator and has previously worked with authors and bands to produce designs for them.
The artist talked through his work, discussing his techniques, the tools he uses and the meaning behind some of his images.
He also talked about the art industry and the different commissions he has had.
Sophia Chippett, ADT teacher, said: “It was an amazing opportunity to have Charlie in to talk to our students. They found it very inspiring.
“Having an ex-student in to talk with the students encourages them to think about further education and careers in the creative industry.
“Charlie gave our students lots of tips and tricks for drawing; they learnt a lot from it. Many of them used his work as inspiration for their own coursework.”
