WHEN the England Netball Vitality Roses step out on court for the Vitality Roses Reunited Series this afternoon, they’ll have the names of people who have inspired and helped them to get to where they are today printed on the front of their dresses.
The initiative, created by Vitality, celebrates the individuals who have had a significant impact on the athletes’ journey to the top.
From teachers who sparked a love of the game to coaches who supported the players to reach the next level and parents who dedicated evenings and weekends to driving all over the country for training and matches, each player has selected one or two special people to celebrate.
Harlow’s Jo Harten has the names of two of her former coaches at Tegate Netball Club, Carol Bull and Jean Cant.
YH caught up with Carol as she was, unsurprisingly, dashing out the front door to umpire a match down at Mark Hall.
Carol said: “I am extremely proud to have my name (along with fellow coach Jean) on Jo’s dress.
“I feel very humble to be called an inspiration .
“I would like to thank Jo for never forgetting her roots.
“Jo was and is a great student of the game. We used to always talk about seven ways to get free (from your marker) and so we encourage all our players to watch Jo this afternoon on TV.
