Essex Waterfall Cup Final
Harlow U14’s 27 v 5 Upper Clapton
Report by Harlow Rugby Club
TODAY saw our brave U14’s take on our local rivals Epping Upper Clapton in the Essex Waterfall Cup Final.
Not only was we facing our local rivals but there was silverware to be had for the victors so this was by far our most important game of the season.
The vibe and energy was present even before the first whistle was blown. This was going to be an epic showdown and it didn’t disappoint.

The first 20 minutes proved to be a bit of a stale mate as both teams was finding their feet with some great defensive play. The nerves was clearly evident, mostly from the parents and supporters on the sidelines.
The first points went to Harlow by way of Tommy Barrett with one of his legendary pitch long runs from a deep upper Clapton kick. Unconverted.
Upper Clapton wasn’t taking this lying down and in the dying seconds of the first half they found a hole in our defence with a beautiful cross kick to the corner to be touched down by the chasing upper Clapton player. Unconverted.
HT 5-5
No need for a big half time talk. The boy’s knew exactly what they needed to do. More of the same, patience and it will come. The second half saw our boys come together as a team with some great rucking from the forwards linking up with the backs and shipping the down the line with skill and confidence.
Harlow stepped it up another notch in the second half with every player performing at 100% capacity.
We have some great individuals in our team but today saw the boys come together as a great team resulting in another four try’s coming from both the forwards and backs. I congratulate the players and coaches for our result today.
All your hard work and commitment is paying off. This is our first year as a full squad and we have a winning cup already. We’ll done boys. You thoroughly deserve it. I am proud to play a small part in this team’s ongoing success story.
