THE Press Recognition Panel (PRP) confirmed today that IMPRESS has retained its status as an approved regulator and continues to meet Royal Charter standards of independence, effectiveness and public accountability.
IMPRESS Chair Richard Ayre said, “This confirmation gives the public assurance that as the Press Regulator recognised as truly independent, we are committed both to freedom of expression and to the highest ethical standards in press journalism.”
After completing a comprehensive review, the PRP Board concluded that IMPRESS continues to comply with all 29 recognition criteria set out in the Royal-Charter on self-regulation of the press.
Being recognised according to these criteria guarantees that IMPRESS is operating to protect both the freedom of the press and the public from harm. It confirms IMPRESS remains independent of the publishers it regulates, politicians and commercial interests, is appropriately funded, is open to all publishers and provides the public with speedy and affordable access to redress.
IMPRESS continues to the be the UK’s only approved press regulator.
Sounds impressive, are congratulations to Your Harlow in order! If so Brilliant and well deserved.
Hello, We were one of the founder members of the press regulator. I just think it is important to have a mechanism in place. Thanks. MC
I doubt that any members of the public would need to involve IMPRESS given YourHarlow's quality journalism.
How can we have trust in comments? when any tom, dick & harry, or what ever their real name is…
Good question. There is an argument that says they should be under real names. The Facebook comments are. Think we have a pretty good post moderation system.
Your Harlow, know who they are - closed shop?
It's rational arguments and freedom of to debate that's really important, it gives us ordinary folk the ability to raise issues and endeavour to speak truth to power, the corrupt, the criminal, the antisocial and the bigots. The problem for ordinary folk is that they are vulnerable to attacks from all of the above, not only online but offline physical attacks and harassment so a degree of anonymity unfortunately is necessary or the bullies win. YH probably know from urls who is who and certainly YH is trusted to moderate. Seems as good a system and compromise as is possible.
