Investigation launched after refuse worker attacked by three people in Old Harlow

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a refuse worker was attacked in Old Harlow.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We were called to The Oxleys in Harlow shortly after 5pm yesterday (3 October) following reports of an assault. The victim was working on a refuse lorry, when they were approached by three people on bikes and assaulted. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact us with any further information.

There really should be a minimum lengthy custodial sentence for anyone who assaults public workers doing their jobs.

I think we have to look at the bigger picture. Youth clubs, for example, are a thing of the past. We lost all our cultural hubs in Harlow. When I was younger I went to youth clubs and was seldom bored even when I wasn't at the club. Violence was present in those days too. Some of you reading this will know you were no angles when you were younger but don't you feel we had more options that simply are not open to the kids of today? Please don't think I'm condoning the actions of these idiots who, in my estimation, have attacked a key worker. It's disgusting. Appropriate punishment should be community service. Contribution back into society. The bikes should be confiscated also, in my opinion. They are the getaway vehicles, after all.

I hope the refuse collector is well supported by his/her employer, the Police and local Council following this violent episode. How many times in the past have these essential workers been victims of physical or verbal abuse, and how were the culprits dealt with ?

these are the same guys that have been hanging round the bottom of the old town and the police came out too them last weekend for harassing a lady who was walking her dog. the problem is they dont give a crap and the police are powerless to do enything

One can only hope that the complete intransigence of the Police Social Services to deal with malcontent thugs who will never amount to anything in life and will always be a drain on the public purse, results in vigilante attacks where these thugs get a damn good battering. Probably too busy arresting someone for saying a woman can't have a penis.

iain Lindsay You also got to remember the police are powerless now a days in what they can and can’t do. It was so different years ago for the police they had more power. Have a closer look at the government for lack of policing and the protocol police have to now follow. It’s ridiculous. This is why they get away with it, no getting arrested , if by a small chance they do it’s a slap on wrist . The judges in court have their hands tied by guidelines and are far to lenient. So arresting a woman that can’t have a penis is pretty pointless.
