ADULT education provider, ACL Essex, is reaching out to residents of Harlow to boost their skills and earning potential by applying for fully funded English, maths and digital skills courses.

Across the county, ACL Essex is looking to support adults who would like to improve their numeracy, literacy and digital skills. To help residents of Essex upskill and improve career prospects, ACL Essex has launched a series of courses this January, and many are free-of-charge.

There is a range of digital courses on offer, including ‘Let’s Get Digital’ that covers the basics of turning on a device, communicating online, and connecting a device to Wi-Fi. Intermediate and advanced digital courses are also on offer, supporting Essex residents to improve their online security, learn advanced Microsoft Office skills and techniques, and understand cybercrime in Cybersecurity Level 1 and 2 courses.

Free English and Maths courses are also on offer and can help adults improve their literacy and numeracy skills in their everyday lives and at work. Functional Skills courses teach the basics, while GCSE English and Maths FastTrack courses allow learners to improve job prospects and achieve the qualifications needed to gain a promotion or land their dream job. There are also English and Maths classes offered as part of ACL Essex’s Community & Family Learning Programme, which can help increase parents’ confidence when supporting their children through education.

ACL Essex also offers a range of flexible learning courses that learners can complete at a time that suits them. Courses enable learners to experience a range of learning opportunities in a variety of formats such as in the workplace by observation, online or at a local ACL centre. Dependent on the course, the learner may have a dedicated tutor who they will meet (online or face to face) once a month or online resources and tutor support where required. Additionally, there may be additional workshops included in the course. This will support the learner to expand on their new knowledge and develop new skills. Courses could be free and include business, management & employability, digital skills, early years and education, English and maths, health, medical and care.

Lisa Jarentowski, ACL Essex Principal, is encouraging adults to be brave and step back into the classroom to gain and improve skills. She says: “Our range of English, maths and digital courses are here to support residents of Essex to change jobs, upskill in order to gain employment or progress in their current role.”

She continues: “ACL Essex is here to support the people of Essex, teach valuable life skills that are not only useful, but can improve quality of life, as well as being a great way to meet others in a friendly and supportive environment.”

ACL Essex courses provide flexible learning opportunities, with online learning available, as well as childcare facilities and financial help for some learners.
