Letter to Editor: We struggle to get around the town by foot, cycling and transport due to.. lack of infrastructure investment.

Politics / Mon 23rd Jan 2023 am31 11:09am

Dear Editor.

ON behalf of the Labour group and as a former cabinet member for regeneration, I welcome the announcement that Harlow will finally receive some funding as part of the “levelling up” agenda.

This has to be balanced against the truth and it’s impact on Harlow

The town has been misled by the MP and Tory councillors around funding for our hospital.

We still struggle to get around the town by foot, cycling and transport due to the deliberate lack of infrastructure investment.

We see new buildings instead of seeing investment to existing infrastructure including repairs.

For the last two years nothing has been built, not one new council house.

Nothing in the last two years has been built in the town centre.

Areas like Potter Street has been misled about local investment.

The leadership of the Tory council is failing this town supported by the MP.

The priority should be about the people today, not broken promises for tomorrow.

Regards

Councillor Tony Durcan.

Says the former Labour Regeneration portfolio holder whose bids for government money were judged to be "poor value for money". Now Harlow Council has millions of pounds to regenerate the drab and depressing town centre thanks to Harlow Conservatives.

Hang on…how many years did Labour have in power to do all this? It hasn’t just fell apart in the last 18 months, this is years of mismanagement. Ah but I forgot, it doesn’t fit the narrative of just attacking the other side on everything rather than working together to get things done. Love local politics. So much time and energy wasted

This is too banal to merit comment. Labour let this town down badly during a decade of waste and mismanagement. It is now being improved by the new administration.

Cllr Durcan talks of the Conservatives lack of action over the past 2 years. They have only been in office for almost 20 months! (Can’t even count!). They delivered council houses at Bushey Croft (started by Labour) and at The Hill. They have announced new projects at Tye Green, Arkwrights and Staple Tye ( the last where Cllr Durcan wasted £’s hundreds of thousands on consultants). How many council houses did Labour build and deliver during their decade in administration and what did they build in the town centre other than the pathetic table tennis tables and new weed beds in the Market Sq for the drunks to occupy? Nothing. Is Cllr Durcan an aspiring comedian? He needs to improve his lines!

Hi Tony, I’m just wondering how you struggle to get around Harlow- when my 92 year Grandad doesn’t have any trouble on his electric tricycle?!

Cllr Durcan , On your own admittance, It seem the very issues Harlow Town faces were not a Tory MP or Tory led council but habit from poor mismanagement by the regeneration portfolio holder which you proudly say was you and a Labour led council so what exactly are you saying here?

With much respect do share any plan you have now or in the past successfully execute within your time in office , the people of Harlow and I are intrigued to know. Surely you must have a strategy we can hear rather than the same old Tory this tory that. Perhaps; instead of congregating on picket line and talking show some real action. The original man and woman are failed by politician who use manipulative measure to disguise their failures with no plan or vision of one with constant bombardment to discourage real productivity or activity via point scoring and promoting hate, misinformation press state and so on but you catch my drift. I can assure you Potter Street community are doing something so uniquely mon - sun irrespectively of the Osler house building not going ahead and this will continue to grow. For clarity I understand it was apparently a Labour led council who created half the issue from purchase the building , to promising something which was unrealistic to begin with and now rest assure a Tory government will ensure the community in potter not just thrive but excel. Do stay tune and watch it all unfold. Cllr Stacy Seales Harlow Common Councillor

Cllr Durcan, with regard to listing his achievements on regeneration -during Labour’s almost 10 years in administration-would struggle to fill the back of a Second Class postage stamp. His credibility and that of the Labour administration is like our current nighttime temperatures, well below ZERO!!!

Did you know Cllr. Seales was a Harlow Common councillor? You do now. But ask her what she has achieved for the Potter Street residents' and silence in golden. Sadly she writes the same old nonsense about Potter Street. I mean what does this mean: "I can assure you Potter Street community are doing something so uniquely mon - sun irrespectively of the Osler house building not going ahead and this will continue to grow." Can anyone explain that statement? Perhaps the leader of the council can have a go because we know he has leadership skills. He actually got a new microphone in under five seconds, amazing stuff!

This article is a wind-up, no? someone else pretending to be Cllr Durcan surely. Because I'm sure the real Cllr Durcan wouldn't be so completely oblivious and duplicitous to his own 10-year failings as the member for regeneration? If this is the real Cllr Durcan - "The priority should be about the people today, not broken promises for tomorrow" so what stopped you following your own advice for the 10 years you were in charge?

The incompetence of a governing party is proportional to the diameter of it's pot holes. Essex Tory: Harlow Tory : Government: Tory

I see the Live Science Building is still an empty Void. Who was it bragging about its success last week?

I am afraid Gary that Cllr Seales totally incomprehensible response shows just how desperate the Tories must have been in finding candidates in recent elections, who then suddenly found themselves elected as Councillors. You would think that someone in the Conservative Party would be vetting her comments before she posted them!

I have no comment on this issue, but I am interested in Michelle's reference to her Grandad's electric tricycle. Can she put me in touch with him, to get his experience.
