STEWARDS Academy’s Phoenix Pathway pupils have experienced brilliant opportunities during March.
The Year 11 group were invited to Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge. Pupils were spoken to about university life, given a tour of the campus, and participated in activities.
Head Girl, Leslie, said: “Going to visit Emmanuel College was a very insightful and eye-opening experience. It has diminished the fear of aiming high and aspiring for a top university. I feel even more motivated.”
The following week, Fran from the university came to Stewards to meet all the Phoenix Pathway pupils. She spoke with KS3 pupils about university life and opportunities available. For Key Stage 4 pupils she went into more depth about the different subject options and applying to different universities.
Helen Martin, lead teacher for High Achieving Pupils said:” The pupils had an exceptional time visiting Emmanuel College and gained a great insight to life as part of the University of Cambridge. It really has set the bar for our pupils as they prepare for the next stage in their educational journeys. All our Phoenix Pathway pupils engaged brilliantly with the talks by Fran and are looking forward to university visits in the future.”
High-achieving students of Harlow need more of this. It would be great if these kids also had access to work experience in chambers, magic circle law firms, Big 4 accountancy firms, hospitals, large technology companies, etc. Education is the easiest way out of poverty and dear god does Harlow have a lot of it.
