Athletics: Top awards for Harlow’s Kerry and Rob

HARLOW Running and Tri Club competed in the Scott’s Travel Midweek Road Race League Mob Match last week in a 10k race at Welwyn Garden City. This is where all three divisions compete in a race before an awards ceremony where team and individual awards are presented.
In the Division 2 individual awards Rob Lowe won the Male Vet 50 award and Kerry Mavris took the 2nd Female Vet 45 award.
On the night the Women’s team finished 10th, the Men 11th and overall HRTC were 10th out of 21 teams.
In the Women’s race Vicky Steadman finished in 41st place out of 203 finishers in 48min 11sec, Ella Wager was 52nd in 49.05, Kerry Mavris 68th in 50.40 and Donna Milton 72nd in a PB time of 50.52.
In the Men’s race Martin Westley finished in 48th place out of 338 finishers in 38.06, Kirk Crudgington was 63rd in a PB time of 38.47 and Martyn Coulter 70th in 39.33. There were also PB times from Hayden Rhodes 177th in 45.49 and James Catton 217th in 48.09.

Meanwhile, at the weekends Dunstable Downs Trail Half Marathon Sean Flynn finished in 67th place out of 123 finishers and 1st Male Vet 60 in 2.24.00.
At the Norwich 10k Trevor Rowlands finished in 2901st place out of 6761 finishers in 54.33, in his debut at the distance, Deborah Pomphret was 3532nd in 56.23, Alan Godbold 4838th in 1.06.16 and Melissa Rowlands 5169th in 1.09.02 in her debut at the distance.
HRTC triathletes were in action at several events at the weekend.
The Odyssey Ironman Triathlon, at St Neots, Cambridgeshire, consists of a 3.8km River Swim followed by a 180km Bike Ride and then a full Marathon Run at 42.2km. Kerry Mavris completed this monumental challenge by finishing in 36th place out of 43 finishers and 2nd Female in a fantastic 14hrs 31min 11sec.
Opting for the shorter distance, at the Dorney Lake Standard Triathlon (1500m swim, 38km bike, 10km run) Richard Thornton finished in 43rd place out of 283 finishers and 1st Male Vet 55 in 2.21.40 and Natalie Thornton was 209th and 2nd Female Vet 55 in 2.54.07, both in their debut at the distance.
At the same venue in the Sprint Triathlon (750m Swim, 24km Bike, 5km Run) Jon Waight finished in 32nd place out of 269 finishers and 1st Male Vet 60 in a PB time of 1.14.42.
At the St Neots Standard Triathlon (1500m Swim, 45km Bike, 10km Run) Jamie Olsen Ferriera finished in 55th place out of 69 finishers in 3.19.57 in his debut at the distance.
At the same venue in the Sprint Triathlon (750m Swim, 24km Bike, 5km Run) Ryan Smith finished in 18th place out of 92 finishers in 1.26.32.
Four days earlier Ryan Smith completed the Luxburough Lake Aquathlon Race 2 (750m swim, 4.5K run) finishing in 3rd place out of 27 finishers in 34.51.
