WITH donations still coming in, local Member of Parliament, Robert Halfon, has beaten his target by raising over £2,000 for Harlow Hospital Radio at his sponsored swim this morning.
The vital funds that Robert has raised will ensure Harlow Hospital Radio can continue to deliver their vital support to staff, patients and their families at Princess Alexandra Hospital. With a brand-new and fully funded hospital due to open in Harlow by 2028, local MP Robert Halfon is supporting the PAH-based charity who do so much across our town to support our NHS heroes.
It’s not too late to support Robert and Harlow Hospital Radio by going to the broadcaster’s Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/page/harlowhospitalradio-sponsoredswim
Commenting on his fundraising success, Mr Halfon said, “Harlow Hospital Radio is a truly wonderful organisation run entirely by volunteers who provide a friendly face to people working and visiting Princess Alexandra Hospital, and beyond. Launched in 1970, HHR have been providing friendship, comfort and support to Harlow people for over 50 years. It is my pleasure to support them by raising over £2,000 to support and develop their amazing work.
“I would like to thank everybody who has supported my sponsored swim by donating and to also pay tribute to the team at Harlow Hospital Radio for their support today. I would also like to thank Suzie and the team at the Manor of Groves Health Club for hosting my sponsored swim with kindness and compassion.”
Robert’s fundraising campaign will help Harlow Hospital Radio to grow their coverage and support even more Harlow people. With new comedy, folk and classical music programmes, listening to the station is even easier thanks to their recent launch on Amazon’s Alexa platform but, with a brand-new hospital due within five years, Harlow Hospital Radio are ambitious to go even further. A new studio with state-of-the-art equipment, a replacement Outside Broadcast Unit to help reach a larger audience and tell more local stories and a greater genre of programming are all in the pipeline for the radio station.
Chair of Harlow Hospital Radio, Andy Meadows, welcomed the funds, saying, “This is a very exciting time for Harlow Hospital Radio as we launch our online streaming platforms, increase our live programming and prepare to continue our services in Harlow’s brand-new hospital when it opens in 2028. HHR is 100% volunteer run, so every penny we raise goes directly to running and improving the station – we are very grateful to Robert for his efforts to raise funds for HHR and to everybody who has supported him and donated to this campaign.”
Whilst I congratulate Mr Halfon on the money raised by his sponsored swim, I do wish he would stop misleading the public with statements about the new hospital.Yes, the treasury has given an agreement in principle to funding a new hospital, however this is subject to the Outline Business Plan being agreed, and other small matters like the land near the new M11 junction being purchased from the current owners, Planning permission being granted by Epping Forest District Council, and the buildings then being constructed. (All to be completed by 2028????) There is also the small matter of the National Audit Office raising concerns about the risk of ""hospitals being built that are that are too small to meet the needs of the communities they serve. I sincerely hope we do get a new state of the art hospital, but there are still a lot of hurdles to be overcome before that hope can become a reality. And I wish Robert Halfon would be straight with the electorate about those hurdles for once.
I'd love to be able to afford to go swimming but the prices are ridiculous. Leisure cards only work if you are claiming benefits, not like they used to for cheaper rates for Harlow residents. Or join the leisure zone but too expensive
Well done Robert u r a fantastic MP. No matter what people always winge.
Shame Councillor Edwards didn't show a little respect to the charity and its volunteers. No mention of them - just his political point-scoring.
Excellent to read Robert Halton did the swim for HHR, I don’t think there are many MPs who do such great things for charity. Listening to the free radio while bedridden makes it much easier when things ain’t so good and especially if you cannot pay for the TV by the Bedside ! All those volunteers running the Radio do a great job and don’t get paid for it. Respect to All of them. As for the comments by the councillor, I thought this was a grown ups page !
