Athletics: Harlow’s Bebe stars at Diamond League

Athletics / Mon 24th Jul 2023 at 08:05am

BEBE Jackson enjoyed a hectic weekend as she competed at both The UK Senior & Para Championships, and then received a call up to the Wanda Diamond League event at The London Stadium on Sunday.

In the Para Championships, she ran the ambulant 100m and threw in the ambulant Discus competition. Jackson qualified for the 100m final, running 14.70s in her heat. She then ran 14.74s, into a headwind, to claim third.

The conditions were tough for all competitors and no more so than for the cage throwers. They had to contend with not only difficult overhead conditions, but also a slippery circle. Nevertheless, Jackson managed a personal best as she threw 23.88m and earned another bronze in the process.

Only during the week did Jackson learn of her invite to The London Stadium and her Championship performances must have given her great heart heading into that arena. Six competitors contested the ambulant 100m, including Sophie Hahn, and Jackson was fourth. Her time of 14.17s represented a season’s best. Whilst she is not running at the Junior Commonwealth Games, this performance, and those of Saturday, are great confidence boosters for the time ahead.

Jackson travels to Trinidad and Tobago next week in readiness for competition from the fourth to eleventh of August. All connected to Harlow AC wish her the very best of luck.
