Harlow Charities relaunch pop-up low-cost school uniform shop at the Harvey Centre

Charity / Wed 26th Jul 2023 at 10:37am

VISITORS to the Harvey Centre have been curious about goings on in the former Sticky Sisters this week.

The shop has been filling with items of school uniform, ready for a re-run of last year’s successful Harlow Community School Uniform Exchange.

Provided by partners Michael Roberts Charitable Trust, Rainbow Services, and Phoenix Resources, the shop takes in donated items for primary and secondary schools and sells them at low cost (50p to £3).

Last year the shop sold over 3,000 items saving Harlow shoppers well over £25,000 as the new school year came around.

The partnership takes in donations throughout July and August – these can be donated now at:

Tesco Church Langley (basket outside front door)
Tesco Edinburgh Way (basket outside front door)
Phoenix Resources Shop – Harvey Centre Level 1
St Paul’s Church – 10 – 3 pm Weekdays
Andy Thornton, CEO of MRCT told YourHarlow:

“It was great to get such a positive response when we set this up last year. Hundreds of people thanked us for setting up something so simple but so effective. I spent my school life getting my brothers’ old uniform – but for families without that benefit costs are sky-high and money is in short supply. Last year our Harlow neighbours were amazing at washing and parceling up their pre-loved items. They liked the idea that someone could benefit, and got a good feeling from passing things on. We charge enough to cover most of the costs and everyone wins out.”

The Uniform Shop will open for purchases on 2nd August and close on 2nd September. Opening hours will be 10 – 3pm, Weds to Saturdays on level 1 Harvey Centre – opposite Cineworld.
