Risden Woods team get on their bikes to raise money for Streets2Homes

Charity / Sun 20th Aug 2023 at 11:09am

RECENTLY the chairman of Risden Woods FC and his team completed the first leg of their trio of cycling challenges, when they completed 60 miles in the saddle, riding from Harlow to Clacton.

Saturday (19th August) was the second leg, where they pushed  themselves even further, with an 80 mile route plotted out, taking them from Harlow to Canterbury this time round. All in aid of supporting chosen charity Streets2Homes.

Streets2Homes is a charity based in Harlow, Essex, that provides a day centre which seeks to reach out to and help those who are facing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. They provide a safe and friendly environment in where they can assist those people in a number of ways including securing accommodation.

Chairman, Graham Dowers said:

“Every year, we organise a charity cycle event to raise money for very worthy causes. Over the years, we have raised money for many different causes, including Haven House Hospice, Princess Alaxandra Hospital Trust, Duchenne UK, and Prostate Cancer UK. This year, it is on a slightly more personal note as, unfortunately, my nephew, Greg Burton, passed away after battling addiction. Streets 2 Homes were a huge support to him during some very tough times. In memory of Greg, we made Streets 2 Homes our chosen charity this year. We appreciate all the ongoing support from our Risden Wood family and all others that kindly give money towards our  events. Your donations really make a difference to people in serious need.”

Originally, we set out to raise £3,000 through our clubs charitable work, not only through the cycling challenges but our annual charity football match, which we hosted back in June and we are extremely proud to say we have accomplished through your kind donations and support!

However… Why stop there, we want to see how far we can exceed the original target, and really make an impact those lives less fortunate than our own!
