De Merc Chamber Choir was founded by Derek Harrison and Michael Frith in 1973 and the choir is named after the ‘de Merc’ family who settled in the Harlow area in the 11th century. The family were connected to St Mary-at-Latton Church which is where the choir rehearse to this day in its church hall.
De Merc Chamber Choir is a compact, versatile mixed voice adult choir specialising in a cappella repertoire ranging from the 16th century through to contemporary works.
Currently around eighteen singers, the De Merc Chamber Choir gives listeners the opportunity to enjoy the intricacy and intimacy of unaccompanied singing that is the essence of smaller ensembles.
