St Elizabeth Children’s Home wins top award

ST Elizabeth’s Children’s Home, based in Much Hadham, are celebrating a win at the National Children and Young People Awards, hosted by Care Talk magazine. 

St. Elizabeth’s offer vulnerable children and adults individually designed education, care and support services that maximise their opportunities to ‘live life to the full’. The charity is a leading provider of care for people with neuro-disabilities including epilepsy and other complex needs. Based across 60 acres, the charity is one of Hertfordshire’s biggest employers with a team of over 500 staff members.

The unique awards celebrate excellence in care for children, young people and families, showcase innovation and best practice in this area and pay tribute to those individuals or organisation who excel in quality care provision.

St Elizabeth’s Children’s Home were nominated and selected as finalists in the ‘Children’s Home Team (South)’ category, and after interview in September, attended the annual gala dinner & awards ceremony on Saturday 21st October at the ICC, Birmingham.

The team enjoyed a 3-course meal and entertainment including an Amy Winehouse Tribute, before the awards ceremony began.

St Elizabeth’s Children’s Home Team were then announced as winners, beating 10 other finalists to the spot. Homes2Inspire, based in Rugby, placed as Highly Commended.

A panel of independent judges said the St Elizabeth’s Children’s Home team ‘nurtures and fosters genuine connections with the children through their dedication to ensuring the well-being of the young people is their top priority.’

Amaka Williams, Director of Children’s Health & Care at the charity said “we are beyond proud to be crowned winners in this category. The morale within the whole team is sky high, and I’m so proud of what we have achieved this year as a team. To be recognised by Ofsted as a Good provider, and now with this award, there are no limits to what we can achieve for our children and young people”.

I am very proud of all my team members from the St Elizabeth's children home. We have all been working hard and flat out to achieve this award. Once again congratulations to you all. From Dan Long Children's home staff forum representative.

I am delighted at this Award being won by St. Elizabeth Children's Home. The staff have been working to provide the excellent care for these young people for a very long time, often under difficult circumstances and staff shortages. This award should help boost confidence with such a positive, accepted value of the time and love given by the caring staff.
