TUESDAY saw over 100 revellers celebrate the transformation of former Sticky Sisters restaurant into a new venue for the Maybury Open Door drop-in centre. Elvis was in the Harvey Centre building to lead the singing and dancing as the party took off!
Now in its 24th year – the Maybury Open Door is run by Harlow’s Michael Roberts Charitable Trust. Michael Roberts – a former resident at Livingston House, was a regular at Maybury Open Door.
“Maybury” is designed to be a place of fun, friendship and safety for people of all kinds – supporting those with learning difficulties or disabilities alongside friends of all abilities. It is a place to relax and belong, with staff and volunteers keeping the energy positive and inclusive.
Maybury’s doors open for 3 days a week (one at Harefield Church on Thursdays) – and the move the new venue should stop it from being Harlow’s ‘best kept secret’. Now, every Tuesday and Friday from 11 am – 3.30 pm it is more visible and accessible to passers-by familiar with the Harvey Centre. Situated opposite Cineworld on the first floor makes it easy find and enjoy.
Maybury Open Door offers a wide range of activities and outings for regular attendees and serves up an affordable lunch alongside a highly accessible social life.
MRCT CEO Andy Thornton commented on the opening “We are hugely grateful to the Harvey Centre for enabling us to start a new era for Maybury in this great building. It was a joyful occasion, and we hope that hundreds more will take the chance to drop by and see if it is for them. Our work, from the Foodbank to the Bounty Club to Bump to Five and School Uniform Shop aims to support people to live their lives to their fullest potential. That was certainly true on this exuberant day which we hope is the start of many more!”
All are welcome at the drop in – and more information can be found at www.mayburyopendoor.org or by calling 01279 724515.

I was there and it was a great event. Elvis/Elton and Freddie were all superb, and went down a storm. Thanks to the team in the kitchen who kept the visitors/friends well fed and topped up with tea. Everybody welcome on Tuesday and Friday (and don't forget Friday)
