A truly heart-warming story for all the family, the story is set at the turn of the last century. When their father disappears unexpectedly three children and their mother have to leave their comfortable life in London to go and live in a small cottage in the middle of the Yorkshire countryside.

This new life is soon filled with adventure as the children discover the nearby railway station and a host of colourful local characters. But the mystery remains; what happened to their father, and will he ever return.

Adapted for the stage and directed by Simon Mawdsley

Like many others Simon fell in love with the original 1970 film version, starring Jenny Agutter and Sir Bernard Cribbins, and has wanted to bring to the stage for many years, with Victoria Hall Theatre (built in 1888) being the ideal setting for this production.

Simon said: ““We want the audience to feel like they are stepping back in time the moment they step through the doors. And once they are seated to feel a real part of everything that happens on stage.”

“And what about the train?

“We’ve created something quite special that will make the audience believe a train really is arriving at Victoria Hall Theatre!”
