Rugby: Harlow dominate Saffron Walden in impressive performance

HARLOW travelled to Saffron Walden to finish off the year knowing that a win would keep them up amongst the league leaders.
A frantic first 10 mins resulted in only a penalty from reliable Liam Batty but Saffron Walden stepped up their game to dominate the ensuing 15 mins. A wonderful try from Adam Nnanchiri, converted by Batty broke the deadlock and a penalty try quickly following sustained Harlow pressure.
Rams rounded off the half with a set lineout move from the ever threatening Brad Etherington again converted by Batty. 24-0 move at half time looked comfortable but Saffron Walden had come back from a higher score at Latton Park earlier in the season.
A scrum from the second half kick -off however settled the contest when Harry Barker finished off a telling break from Ben Creasey. Saffron Walden fought back and scored a well deserved converted try but the writing was on the wall.
Three more tries by Louiise Castiglione, Barker and Casey Teague quickly followed, all converted by Batty to take the score to 50-7. A spirited home side continued to fight back and scored another try but Harlow were not to be denied. Montelle Levy scored his inaugural first team try following an interception and a breath taking show of speed. Batty added the 2 points and although the home team finished the game with a try Harlow could be very pleased with a fine all round team performance 57-17 being the final score.
Man of the match award could have gone to one of 8 players but a fine display in both offence and defence by Luke Bowering secured the vote.
Harlow will now take a well deserved rest before starting their second half league campaign on Jan 6 away at Brentwood.
