St Clare Hospice partners with MND Association to launch joint Café Clare

Charity / Wed 3rd Jan 2024 at 09:48am

ST Clare Hospice has joined forces with the MND Association to host a monthly coffee morning for people with motor neurone disease, their families and carers.

On the second Friday of the month, MND Association volunteers will be at Café Clare, held in the dining room of the Hastingwood-based hospice, offering people who are living with, or affected by, the neurological condition to find out how the two charities can support them.

St Clare has been running its weekly Café Clare coffee morning every Friday for the past three years, but this is the first time it has collaborated with another charity to host the event. People are welcome to drop in anytime between 10am and 12pm for a friendly chat and support over tea, coffee and breakfast bites.

St Clare’s community engagement lead Paula Fogg said: “We hope this new collaboration with the MND Association will be the first of many Café Clare partnerships with specialist charities whose work aligns with the care and support we offer here at the Hospice to those living with life-limiting conditions.

“Our monthly Café Clare with MND Association offers the chance for both of our organisations to work more closely together to better support people across West Essex and the East Herts border who have motor neurone disease, helping us to reach them earlier in their diagnosis and raise more awareness of the help that is available.”

The MND Association focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those with MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The charity has a network of 88 branches and groups run by volunteers.

MND Association area support co-ordinator Justine Cox said: “We’re delighted to be able to join with St Clare and host our monthly coffee mornings at Café Clare. This partnership will enable people living with MND and their families and carers to meet others affected by MND in a welcoming and friendly environment and to also find out about the support that’s available from both charities.”
