Harlow Cricket Club set to celebrate 250th anniversary

HARLOW Cricket Club is looking forward to a wonderful season which sees them celebrate their 250th anniversary.

In many ways, they have a history that encapsulates the social history of the area. It is also a history that has one common denominator and that is a love of the game of cricket.

The season for all five teams continues but there is also a packed programme of special games from their neighbours at Matching Green and Sawbridgeworth to very special matches against the MCC and well as the Barbadian High Commission.

The club is lucky to have, in President Alan Howick, a true keeper of the flame that is the club’s history.

We went down to the club’s home at Marigolds, off Chippingfield in Old Harlow to seek to Alan about the history of the club and the plans for the year.

Well done Alan and all the team behind him that keep cricket alive in Harlow. There are so many good things in the town that we should celebrate, ones often run by volunteers. I hope this 250th anniversary year is a good one for all the teams within the club.
