Fire Service issues advice after bonfire spreads in Fold Croft

News / Tue 2nd Apr 2024 at 08:08am

FIREFIGHTERS are giving bonfire safety advice after a bonfire spread to fences and the outside of a flat in Harlow this afternoon.

Two crews from Harlow were called to a garden fire in Fold Croft, Harlow at 2:52pm.

On arrival, crews reported a bonfire had spread to fence panels and had started to affect the outside of a flat.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire and gave first aid to a man who had burns to his hands and face.

Watch Manager Ross Daynes from Harlow Fire Station said: “We’d recommend setting your bonfire up well away from anything it can set alight like fences, sheds, trees etc.

“Stay with your bonfire at all times to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn’t burn out of control. If the fire does burn out of control, please dial 999 and avoid trying to extinguish the fire yourself.”

How irresponsible. I live nearby and there is constant issues with the same property. It's the kids I feel for, what hope do they have?

The fires in the garden at this property first started in mid March late at night, like 11.30 onwards. Our garden is adjacent and the flames were coming up over their fence with sparks flying over our garden and others. Absolutely ridiculous. Why would you light bonfires late at night?? There is obviously a big problem rhere!

I'm surprised this hasn't happened long before now. Irresponsible people. Fires morning, noon and night with no consideration for neighbours. In honesty,we didn't know if the cause of the fire was innocent or potentially someone aiming to cause damage as the people who live there and congregate there, are horrible individuals. 1 boy in particular is an absolutely vile, drug dealing bully. Always something going on there. About time it came to an end
