STEWARDS Academy’s Year 8 rugby team finished the rugby season by winning the West Essex & Harlow final against Davenant school.

The team were in great spirits on the minibus going to the game and were desperate to repeat last year’s performance by winning both the Harlow & West Essex rugby finals!
There was a great team spirit and they needed to show resilience and determination to keep out the Davenant opposition who took an early lead by scoring the first try. Stewards then scored their first try much to the delight of the large crowd made up of parents and teachers. It was a great match.
Duncan Rayney, Subject Leader for PE, said: “It was a real testament to the teams’ character that Stewards kept going and got their noses back in front. The crowd and opposition commented that Stewards showed great sportsmanship at the end of the game by shaking hands with their worthy opponents and forming a tunnel to clap them off the pitch. We are so proud of their achievements.”
Well done Stewards school. Excellent achievement and well deserved.
