Harlow MP Chris Vince issues statement over “Nazi salute” incident

Chris Vince / Tue 13th Aug 2024 at 04:28pm

HARLOW MP Chris Vince has issued a statement after a film emerged of a man allegedly making a “nazi salute” at anti-racism demonstration in the town centre.

Chris Vince said: “The video filmed at the anti-racism rally in Harlow on Saturday is deeply alarming. Seeing someone in the crowd openly making what seems to be a Nazi salute is understandably disturbing for Harlow residents.

“This kind of behaviour has no place in our community. I’m relieved to hear that the police have launched an investigation into the incident. As the investigation is ongoing, I’m careful not to comment further. It’s important to give the police time to thoroughly investigate this matter”.

I agree with Chris totally unacceptable behaviour. 80 years ago people came together to defeat that vile ideology at great cost. It has no place in our town

I would have been a little more impressed with this if Chris Vince had sent a letter to YourHarlow regarding the riots. In fact, in an interview with Michael Casey published 5th August Vince fails to mention the riots. Remember the riots started at the end of July. A Morning Star article published today exposes the poor attitude of Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer towards Muslims and Islamaphobia. The key paragraphs are: 'SIR KEIR STARMER has failed to meet any representative Muslim organisations since the onset of the far-right Islamophobic riots. A Downing Street spokeswoman today was unable to identify any meeting with Muslim groups about their concerns over disturbances which have included attacks on mosques and on Muslim individuals. Nor could she indicate any planned meetings... The failure to engage with any representatives of those facing the largest threat of racist violence opens the premier to further charges that he is soft on Islamophobia. Sir Keir has been reluctant to call out Islamophobia since the riots and has preferred to treat them as exclusively a law-and-order issue.' One pensioner's Nazi salute brings on a wave of politicos condemnation. Contrast that with Muslims firebombed in their mosques and asylum hotels and being attacked on the streets doesn't even warrant a letter from Vince or other local leaders. Considering the anti-racism rally was in response to a nationwide wave of Islamophobic violence and arson it is somewhat strange that no mention is made by them.

So this is to say henis saying nothing? He said nothing about the recent stabbing and controlled explosion in the town either. An MP who says nothing. Great. Carry on cutting ribbons and watching football we will be fine.
