CHILDREN and adults with type 1 diabetes faced “appalling” treatment at London Stansted Airport and were made to feel like criminals, according to a number of complaints made to the BBC.
One mum from Lowestoft, in Suffolk, claimed her teenage son was “adamant he won’t fly again” after feeling “bullied” into going through an X-ray scanner that could damage his medical devices.
Others described being taken to a room to be searched while their essential equipment was kept at the security desk.
The airport said all its security staff “receive thorough training” to provide “understanding and awareness” of medical conditions, and apologised to one family for any “confusion or distress” caused.

Stansted Airport does not require a person to go through an X-Ray!! The body scanners they use are non ionising radiation which is in the spectrum of VL (visible light) RF (Radio Frequency )the equivalent of house hold items are as such LED lights, cell phones and Wi-Fi . According to the CAA there is no danger to "diabetic pumps or Pacemakers" , if however a passenger refuses to use the body scanner then they are required to undergo a Enhanced body Search (Not beneath 1 layer of clothing)of which would be explained prior to search and signed consent in accordance with the DfT regulations. All passengers are required to undergo security checks as stated in the terms and conditions of your Airline ticket. Unfortunately it seems that misinformation or miscommunication has caused this issue surprisingly the BBC are involved. I take it the flight took off/landed safely for the people to complain.
