Senior Conservative councillor slams Labour over their decision to review plans for new hospital for Harlow

A SENIOR Conservative councillor has expressed his concerns at the news that plans for a new hospital for Harlow is now offically under review.
Councillor Alastair Gunn, who is portfolio holder for Garden Town and Planning said: “Confirmation that Harlow’s new hospital remains under review and under risk by the Labour government is deeply disappointing.

”A new, relocated Princess Alexandra Hospital has long been planned and under the former Conservative government the funding was in place to deliver it.
“This has shaped work on other major plans to develop the town, including on how to meet our mandatory housing targets and improve public transport – both aims the Labour government should want to help us with.
”Harlow residents deserve clarity on our new hospital, not the uncertainty this lengthy government review will bring.
“To see the new Labour MP – elected on a promise to deliver on the new hospital – trying to blame the former government for decisions being taken by the new one he supports is disappointing, and unlikely to fool Harlow residents.
“He needs to join us in fighting for Harlow’s needs, rather than playing party politics whenever the going gets tough.“
Have a day off ffs
Who the fxxk is this gink
There once a was PM named Boris, Who was elected on a Promise, Of 40 new hospitals, though we all knew it was all, a complete load of utter... the level of brass necked-ness from the local Conservative party amazes me. A 2019 election ploy that they knew was a fantasy and proven so by the "new" hospitals being "built" since turning out to be small refurbs and units in pre existing hospitals shows what they are; charlatans. If it does fool the people of Harlow then that's their own fault. Cllr Gunn calls for clarity, so tell me Mr Gunn, how would you characterise the clarity od the last 5 years since the promise was made by Boris Johnson?
Surely a new shape for the future of the town will be needed if a new hospital is not built bearing in mind that the formerly named Public Health England move to Harlow which was supposed to bring 2000 to 3000 new jobs to Harlow has been mothballed. The fact is, that back in 2019 at the time of the Local Plan being looked at, there were already Planning Applications for 1600 new homes in excess of those required of the council by the Conservative government. Since then, hundreds more have been given, 140 odd in Newhall, a second block at Market House, 150 odd at Wych Elm to name just a few. Our Councillors seem intent on cramming more and more people in to the town, allowing thousands of homes to be built on the towns boundaries, rather than looking after those of us who already live in the town.
Boris Johnson proposed lots of wonderful new things including the Celtic Crossing (bridge to Ireland) a multi billion fund to fix roads and potholes, Boris Island in the Thames (some sort of TV show?) another bridge to France and he promised forty new hospitals, provided that is people voted Conservative. People did vote for his Conservative government and got one new hospital (in Bath).
Convert the public health England site into extension of existing hospital. It’s a no brainier that is staring everyone in the face. Public health England can never use the site as they wanted due to basic risk assessment failures. Someone high up in government needs to make the decision though as public health englands decision making process moves at a glacial pace.
Mr D, what a selective memory you have, l wonder why Boris wasn’t able to fulfil his election promises in 2019? Could it be a minor event that occurred in 2020, that cost the country quite a bit of money, that would have been spent on these new hospitals. And before you go on a Boris / Covid rant, of course Mr Starmer would have done things differently. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Boris Johnson promised 40 new hospitals, but put aside no money to build them. Mr Halfon was happy to repeat the promise, election after election to boost his chances, even though he knew no money was available and the government hadn't even applied for planning permission for the new site. The lie has been exposed. Billions of pounds of public money was given away to Conservative donors, friends family members and even the local pub landlord that could have funded the NHS. The truth is Harlow's new hospital was a con job by the Conservatives. To blame Labour for telling the truth is madness.
Honestly this nonsence about 40 new hospitals has already cost billions. It was pure tory lies mostly from the con man boris Johnson.. we continue to waist money on this fiction.
Any individual with an interest in "Garden Town" has no interest in the progress of Harlow, including those within Harlow Council. The current state of the town caused by these "Garden Town" developments is the evidence.
