New bus service to link residents to Princess Alexandra Hospital

Health / Sun 27th Oct 2024 at 11:55am

A NEW bus service linking Harlow bus and railway stations to Princess Alexandra Hospital on an hourly basis will help Epping Forest residents attending appointments or visiting patients at their local hospital.

Service 407/417 is funded by Section 106 from the Harlowbury/Gilden Park development on the borders of Epping Forest and Harlow District councils.

The service connects Old Harlow with the town’s bus and rail stations and Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Epping Forest District Cllr Nigel Bedford, Portfolio Holder for Harlow and Gilston Garden Town said:

Many Epping Forest residents will find this new service useful if travelling to Princess Alexandra Hospital by bus and find the onward walk from the bus terminus or railway station too taxing.

This is an early example of working with developers to help achieve the sustainable transport ambitions of Harlow Gilston Garden Town and other major development sites.

Various bus services already connect Epping, North Weald and Ongar to Harlow with improved frequency and service into the evenings and weekends and a £2 flat single fare currently funded by the Government.

Shame it’s awful for being on time.

Jenny, every time I’ve seen this bus, it’s sitting with hazard lights on and not at a bus stop. One evening it was sat at the traffic lights on Edinburgh Way, next time sat on Edinburgh Way by Skoda dealership. Several times sat at bus stop in Gilden Way by the crossing at Oxleys. Internal lights not on and driver on pavement smoking.

I would like the Stansted Airport service to be sorted out. Either you can't get on the bus, or they cut buses out, or they are to late.

People in Loughton, Buckhurst Hill have an awful journey to PAH Harlow by public transport - tube or bus to Epping, then bus to Harlow (if schedules match) then from Harlow bus station to the hospital. Luckily I've always had good treatment at Whipps Cross Hospital !

We were promised a new hospital opening in 2024, we have to settle for a new bus route to the old hospital.
