THE chief constable of Essex says he may be forced to cut 200 officers and staff unless his force receives extra funding.
Ben-Julian Harrington from Essex Police said his force was facing a £34m shortfall in the next financial year, the vast majority made up of staffing costs.

“To put it bluntly, the books don’t balance,” Mr Harrington said.
The Home Office said the police funding settlement would provide Essex Police with £406.2m over the next year.

Removal of the Essex Chief Constable would help fund several front line officers. Just a thought !!
We need to tax the rich more.
The police suffered huge cutbacks over the past decade or so under 'austerity' . The fallout of these absurd Tory policies that enriched the rich continues. The situation is desperate and the new government is doing what it can to redress the situation. Best of luck to the Chief Constable in dealing with is dire financial situation.
The cost to UK taxpayers of our failing asylum system is approaching £6 Billion a year, if both the Conservatives and Labour actually dealt with the issue effectively imagine how many extra police would be on our streets.
