NHS App upgrade to give patients more choice over treatment

PLANS for an upgraded NHS App to allow more patients in England to book treatments and appointments will be part of a package of measures unveiled by the government on Monday reports the BBC.
The changes will allow patients who need non-emergency elective treatment to choose from a range of providers, including those in the private sector.

Ministers and NHS leaders will publish this week what is described as an elective reform plan designed to speed up planned treatment.

We do not need another bloody app, we need to be able to see a GP, have the operation we need. The APP will not help with that, these days everyone thinks you need their app you do not. Just get the NHS working, which is not hard either just start firing management and bring in performance related pay for medical staff, along with removing the caps on Drs places in the UK.
Adam, I absolutely agree and also a lot of older people may have a mobile phone to call and message but do not know their way around the apps which however easy they may appear to younger patients thery are a challenge for some older folks.
I absolutely agree with Adam. Too many incompetent managers who couldn't care less about patients.
Unfortunately our government thinks that they can reduce waiting lists by making the service more difficult to access. The real crime here is they actually think this is a good thing
I think the GP service is a bit like the benefits system - It’s there for the regulars, who know their way around the system and know how to milk it. For the rest of us, who go years without using it, it just isn't responsive. I think the last time I saw a doctor must have been 20 years ago. A few months ago, I wanted a PSA test because I’m over 50 and I’m aware it’s an entitlement. You can’t get the doctor on the phone during the day, so I went in there and asked to book a phone appointment with a doctor at any time during the future so that I could get a test. I was told that I couldn’t book an appointment and that I’d have to call at 8am - Next morning I called from work - I was 35th in the queue - Still 35th, and then eventually I gave up. An App would mean that I could just cut out the middleman - These doctors all have their own peculiar rules and it seems that the system is just there to serve their inefficient businesses. If we had an App and some oversight body could see exactly what these doctors were doing and how little or how much they were doing and for who and then we could marry this information with their patient outcomes. Then Adam, we might just get to see a doctor more easily. As the App is already there, all surgeries should have to turn all functionality on.
Enabling more private providers will do little to clear the waiting lists. Tribune magazine and the Socialist Health Association have published articles questioning the wisdom of 'spare capacity' in the private sector. Indeed the Care Quality Commission in 2018 highlighted poor quality care in 41 percent of private hospitals which is stated in Tribune magazine article: https://tribunemag.co.uk/2023/06/labours-love-affair-with-private-healthcare
