Four primary schools hold their first Spelling Bee
Education: Primary / Mon 7th Apr 2025 at 06:53am
PEARTREE Mead Academy, Potter Street Academy, Purford Green Primary and The Downs Primary, have worked together to hold its first MATSpelling Bee competition.

Earlier in the spring term, children in every year group across PCLC were provided a set list of spellings to learn at home. Each school held their own competitions to find their top speller in each year group, with winners from Year 3 – Year 6 representing their school in the trust final on Tuesday 1st April.
During an exciting but tense afternoon, the finalists competed against each other, with the support of their friends in the watching audience, to become the trust champion. The level of spelling was outstanding, with staff picking words children had never seen before from the Year 7 spelling lists to find the eventual winners in some year groups. Children showed a great deal of resilience, with a majority of the rounds going to sudden death and children as young as 8 and 9 years old applying their spelling knowledge and skills to spell out words way above the expectations for their age.
A big congratulations to everyone who took part, especially the overall winners of each year group.
