Police have no reports of vandalism to buses in Sumners

Crime / Thu 8th May 2025 at 08:38am

WITH the news that bus service Central Connect had suspended its service in the evenings and at weekends due to vandalism, we asked Essex Police if they had any reports logged with them.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We have had one incident reported to us of a bus being damaged in Harlow.

“A window was damaged in Milwards at 7.30pm on 15 April.

“If you have any information about the incident please report it online: www.essex.police.uk/digital101 quoting the crime reference number 42/51211/25.

“The Neighbourhood Policing Team is working with the local community safety partnership to understand the full extent of the issue but, as with any crime, we need incidents to be reported to us when they happen.

“We cannot resolve issues we do not know about and reports help us build a picture of what is happening, when, and where which helps us direct our resources”.

We have contacted Central Connect for a statement.

I wonder how many reports of the glass in bus shelters being smashed in, they have had?

Why aren't bus shelters fitted with perspex windows ? In the long term, it must be far cheaper than continually clearing up and replacing shattered glass.

This has nothing to do with vandalism to bus shelters at all . The buses themselves are under attack ,so much so staff working late at Princess Alexandra cannot get hoe without a walk from the Sumners Roundabout on water lane . About 15 years ago Arriva suspended evening services to Sumners ,seems like history is repeating its self In an earlier report I see the police say they had no reports of this vandalism ,makes me wonder why Central Connect failed to report it to the police.
