STAFF from William Martin C of E Schools, alongside the family of Ruby Trussler, have completed the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £10,000 for the UK Sepsis Trust in memory of beloved pupil Ruby Trussler.
Six-year-old Ruby Trussler passed away on 11th October after a short illness. She contracted sepsis while in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
On 24th May, a team of sixteen, including Ruby’s parents, Emma and Dean Trussler, her sister Ellie, and staff from William Martin, set out to climb the highest peaks in Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike), and Wales (Snowdon/Yr Wyddfa) within 24 hours.

The challenge lived up to its name, with the team facing driving rain, strong winds, and little sleep. At the summit of each mountain, a memorial stone was placed in Ruby’s memory.
Throughout the journey, the team received messages of support from the William Martin school community in Harlow, helping them push through the toughest moments.

Executive Headteacher at William Martin Schools Gina Bailey said,
“This was one of the most difficult things every member of our team had done, and we never would have completed it without the amazing teamwork and support from each other and from our school family back home. We are so proud to have completed this in Ruby’s memory and to raise funds and awareness for Sepsis UK.”
A special thank you was given to Passmores Academy in Harlow, who kindly donated the use of their minibus for the challenge.
So far, the team has raised £10,670 for Sepsis UK, with donations still coming in.
