The roof of the building has collapsed.

That whole area is a stain on the town. A mecca for fly tipping, antisocial behaviour and infested with rats. The whole area should have been cleared long ago. There was a scheme to build some houses on there a while ago but has gone quiet - contrary to popular opinion that's a perfect place for some low density housing, given it's a derelict brownfield site.

The Maypole, "sudden" fire. Now developed over. Northbrooks House, "sudden" fire. Now developed over. Now Paradise Lodge. Hhhmmmmm. Most suspicious.

We were at the scene. Such a scary thought that the block of flats were at risk. Fire crews did an amazing job, supported by the police to protect the public and ambulance crews on standby. Well done to all who risked their lives to put out the fire. You're ask hero's. Thank you for your service ♡♡♡

Mr Grumpy - this isn't the first time this building has been targeted by arsonists. Harlow is full of little scroats that like to start fires and, depressingly, also full of derelict former community assets which are easy to torch. There's already a granted planning application for this site, which included converting the main lodge into dwellings.

Don't forget Sherards House, left by our own council to fall in to disrepair and set alight on at least one occasion. All property developers siting on their asset waiting for it to increase in value and then sell on to another developer.

It’s like a plot from Eastenders. How ironic.

Is this the one where the owners refused to sell so a developer could build flats? How convenient is that

It shows the failure of our legal/political system that prevents unused derelict buildings (not always derelict) from being seized by local authorities for the benefit of local people. The former Odeon falls into this category, is there a connection?

Seamus - no. This site has an active planning application approved last year for twenty dwellings.

Something needs to be done about this area. Now the cycle track and footpath has been closed off going down to Sainsbury's underpass you have to walk past the back of this area. It's full of tipped rubbish, secluded and not a nice place to have to walk
