Prolific Harlow shoplifter jailed thanks to work by Neighbourhood Policing Team

Crime / Thu 28th Aug 2025 at 04:37pm

A PROLIFIC shoplifter has been jailed thanks to work of Harlow’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Kayleigh Blunnie, 39, of Brockles Mead, Harlow was sentenced to a total of 15 months in prison at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on 18 August.

Work by our officers had identified she was responsible for thefts from shops in July and she was arrested and charged.

She had previously been given a series of suspended sentences in February for similar offences and the judge at her sentencing activated these so she is now in custody.

Inspector Leanne Archer, from the Harlow Neighbourhood Policing Team, said:

“We work to protect our hardworking businesses and deal with those who steal from them.

“We’ve seen a 10 percent fall in theft from shop offences with more than 100 fewer across the district in the last year.

“And we’re solving more of them too.

“We value our neighbourhoods so we will do everything we can to protect you, your property, and your livelihood.”

I think it would be helpful if the Security Guards that we see in some of our shops were given the ability to hold the suspected shoplifters until Police arrive. I know it can open up a can of worms regarding assault etc, but as the guards already have to go through training to get a licence maybe this is something that can be added. It's very disheartening to see shoplifters just walk out of shops and both the staff and Security can only stand and watch.

Her picture says to me she has an addiction problem. She needs help which is not always on offer in prison.
