Harlow MP backs PAH bosses over low government league table position

Chris Vince / Wed 10th Sep 2025 at 11:21am

HARLOW MP Chris Vince has issued a statement following PAH’s low rating in the new government league tables.

Mr Vince said: “Residents of Harlow will not be shocked to see that the Princess Alexandra Hospital has been placed towards the bottom of the recently published league table. However, it goes without saying that the staff of Princess Alexandra Hospital provide phenomenal care in difficult conditions. It is important to recognise this at every opportunity.

I believe the new leadership team that is in place is committed to radical change which is in line with the Governments 10-year plan for the NHS, and I will continue to work with them and support them in any way that I can.

Since being elected, I have seen first-hand the damage that over a decade of Conservative mismanagement and underfunding of our NHS has had on our hospital and our community. This is highlighted in the new framework which acknowledges longstanding problems.

However, we have now secured over £1.5 billion worth of investment for a new hospital for Harlow and for the first time ever a realistic timeline of a delivery. Of course there is more to do, and I will continue to work every day to ensure we have the best facilities available to our residents.”

Mr Vince, you are doing the people of Harlow a great disfavour. PAH is ranked 120th out of 134 in the country. If you travelled around the country, you'd find hospitals with an estate in a far worse condition than Harlow, but still that manage to provide a level of care which isn't in the bottom 10% - Stand up for your constituents, not the Merry-Go-Round of low quality managers, who move around from one failing hospital to the next.

What a load of malarkey, this hospital has had a bad name for decades. If he the ( MP) had a clue what he was talking about he would not be happy with this situation but like most of the political class just stick your head in the sand

It is interesting to note that Lister Hospital in Stevenage is in 19th place having benefited from the transfer of two good senior managers from PAH's estates management team who were not valued by PAH chiefs. This rather underscores the issue of poor staff retention, because the staff don't fancy the smell of poo from the drains or the lack of appreciation from the top bosses. It's a clapped out hospital with clapped out bosses. Anyone with ambition and options moves on to further their careers. It's worth the 45 minutes drive to Stevenage to be appreciated.

So if you have 1.5 billion in your back pocket to build a new hospital - Bulid the bloody thing !!!!! But I have to say - I have just spent 2 weeks in PAH and received fantastic care and the staff were amazing.

Could someone please explain to me why this so called Government has millions to spend out on asylum seekers and warning signals to mobiles but can't build the hospitals that are so badly needed by all of us who can't afford private care. I know that the staff on the whole do a wonderful in difficult circumstances.

Whatever happened to the Boris bus promise eh Christine? What was it, £350 million a week going into our NHS? Let's face it, this country has been run by idiots for some time. I don't think the fault lays with asylum seekers.

Mr George, having to pay £9million a day for asylum seekers , would go a long way to helping our hospitals. I totally agree with Christine.

We are second class citizens in our own country, MP Chris Vince , and PM Kier Starmer , both have the same medical problem. NO BACKBONE.

Ted. Can I ask why you blame asylum seekers for 14 years of underfunding the NHS under the guise of austerity? Can I ask who is to blame for the backlog that deals with the asylum claims that ends up costing more than it could/should? All these things are controlled by our governments, not asylum seekers and there is absolutely nothing to say that £9 million (in reality it's about 3.6 million btw) a day would even go on the NHS, just like the Boris bus promise. All the faults in this country are not the fault of asylum seekers. Sigh.
