HARE STREET PALS SUPPORTING STUDENTS THROUGH THE ARTS
Hare Street School selected their new group of Performing Arts Leaders, or “PALS” for this academic year. They will work closely with Sam Ashford from Livewire Theatre to develop their leadership skills and to learn lots of drama games. Their main role is to take to the playground and identify any pupils who may be feeling lonely or at a loss of what to do in their break time and engage them with drama games that will encourage confidence and fun.
Performing arts lead Michelle Gibbons commented “The PALS have become an integral part of playground activity here at Hare Street, they’re engaging with younger children at break and lunch and passing on the skills they’re learning with Sam. It’s wonderful to see”
Alongside their roles of supporting other young people, the PALS will take part in community. events as well as learning how to operate the lights and sound for school performance.
Sam Ashford said “This is a great opportunity for these outstanding pupils to really shine and spread their joy for learning through playing with other children. This is one of the the reasons I love working with Hare Street so much, we use the arts wherever possible to engage pupils and help develop their confidence and self esteem”
My child does not go to that school, but he used to do an afterschool program with one of those children, and that child had some serious behavior issues. Punching others, fighting, kicking, threatening and screaming at his mum when she "attempted" to calm him down. Is this what happens these days, naughty children rewarded with a fun scheme?
Oh my goodness David - How lucky are you that your child only USED to go to the afterschool programme and that they don't also have to attend school with such a horrible naughty child as you described. I'm sure Mr Coster as an experienced head teacher and Mr Ashford as an experienced drama teacher at a school with outstanding Ofsted will wholeheartedly embrace your opinion and might think twice in the future as to which children they assign to such 'fun rewards'
