HOWE Green House School and Nursery, an independent school for children aged 2-11 years, just outside Bishop’s Stortford, is celebrating after receiving an outstanding report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), following a rigorous inspection at the end of the Summer Term.

The inspection, which covered all aspects of school life from leadership and curriculum to pupil wellbeing and safeguarding, found that the school met every one of the five key standards — a clear endorsement of the school’s direction, values and performance.

A Real Vote of Confidence”

Headteachers Mr Paul Bailey and Mrs Anna Lipani, who lead the school as a Co-Headship, described the report as “a real vote of confidence” in the entire school community.

“We’re incredibly proud of what the inspectors observed – not just in the classrooms, but in the everyday interactions, conversations and atmosphere across the whole school,” stated Co-Head Mr Bailey. “But more than anything, we’re proud of the children. Their curiosity, their kindness and their love for learning were what truly shone through.”

Co-Head Mrs Lipani added,

“It’s heartening to see the inspectors highlight not only our high academic standards, but also the warmth, inclusivity and resilience of our pupils. That balance is exactly what we strive for.”

Strong Leadership, Rich Curriculum

The report praised the school’s leadership and governance, noting that school leaders work closely and effectively with governors to ensure that Howe Green House’s ethos of respect, tolerance and kindness is evident across all areas.

Inspectors found that the curriculum was both wide-ranging and appropriately challenging, with pupils developing independence, strong communication skills and a genuine enthusiasm for learning.

The co-curricular programme also received glowing remarks, with activities designed to enhance pupils’ physical, social and creative development.

Co-Chair of Governors Mrs Sam Bristow reflected on the result:

“The report is a resounding endorsement of the Howe Green School approach. Each child reaches their full potential in all aspects of school life in a supportive and nurturing environment. We are incredibly proud of our school.”

Wellbeing at the Heart of the School

A key theme throughout the report was the school’s commitment to pupils’ mental and physical wellbeing.

Inspectors described classrooms as “calm and inclusive,” with clear routines and a culture of positive behaviour. Physical education was singled out for helping to build both resilience and community spirit, while the school’s proactive approach to safeguarding was found to be thorough and robust.

Mrs Klimowicz, whose two children attend the school, said the findings came as no surprise.

“The staff know every child as an individual, and it shows. My son and daughter feel safe, seen and challenged every day, and that’s all you can really ask for as a parent.”

A School on the Rise

Howe Green House School and Nursery has seen steady growth in recent years, both in the developments it is making and its reputation. The school, nestled in the Hertfordshire countryside, continues to attract families looking for a nurturing, academically ambitious environment that places equal emphasis on character and curiosity.

“There’s something very special about this school,” said Mrs Abbott.“ It’s not just the quality of the teachers and the care to each individual child’s learning, it’s the confidence and kindness you see reflected in the pupils. That’s what made us feel it was the right place for our children.”

As the school looks ahead to its next inspection in three years’ time, the mood is one of excitement and momentum with a new three year development plan set to be introduced.

“This report confirms that we’re building on solid foundations,” said Mrs Lipani. “But we’re always evolving to give our pupils the very best.”
