STAND up to Racism has expressed its concerns over a new “community group” that have begun to patrol the streets of Harlow
A spokesperson said: “This is a worrying development because, although claiming to be a ‘community safety group’ it was in fact set up by far-right racists in Epping during the campaign of intimidation and violence against refugees outside the Bell Hotel there.

Founder Jack Golding has been pictured at the Bell Hotel protests, and his own Facebook page contains racist and misogynistic comments towards women, black people and people from Pakistan. A post on his page also advocated support for the neo–Nazi British National Party.
“The Essex Spartans Facebook page also contains a derogatory post towards asylum seekers, and, according to their own Facebook posts, it is an organisation supported by far-right activist Mathew Durham of the ‘Harlow Says No’ anti-asylum seeker group as well as Craig Kitts, the notorious ‘Flag Man’ responsible for the deliberately intimidatory display of flags around our community.
They continued: ‘the far-right Essex Spartans vigilante group is part of a pattern of fascistic groups around the country setting up street patrols to normalise intimidation of refugees.
At first, they take a ‘softly, softly’ approach to ingratiate themselves with local communities, similar to that taken by Neo-Nazi Callum Barker in Epping who set up litter picking patrols before organising violent protests at the Bell Hotel.
This may have even fooled some participants. The fundamental aim of the organisers, however, is to whip up the fear that communities are threatened by people seeking asylum and that our country has to be ‘taken back’. But this is not true.
“Our communities are more at risk from violent far-right activists like those creating mayhem outside the Bell Hotel. Our town is a town for everyone. Our community is united. We will not let it be torn apart by racists and hatemongers.’
Well done for highlighting this. The community needs to know who these people really are and what they stand for.
Given what we know about the founders of this group, it is not surprising that they named it after the ancient Greek state of Sparta, as "Adolf Hitler cited Sparta as a model state, and inspiration, for Nazi Germany, not least in its willingness to commit mass murder on racial ground". * I don't think we ought to have our streets being patrolled by people inspired by a state that was a byword for brutality and oppression. * https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1057/9781137384713_12

IBRAHIM. Something seems iffy about your made up post🤔
Wat Tyler, if history is your game then look up how Hope not Hate is linked to Socialist Worker who spent most of 2010-2014 defending claims of Sexual abuse and rape within the organisation by the CUSU Women’s and BME organisations, all easy to find. All organisations have a history, the key is to have the eyes open to all involved whilst not turning a blind eye to your own preferred organisation of chaos. As to the Spartans, I can't help but notice the "spokesperson" doesn't give their name to marry against their largely incorrect personal accusations as facts. You can't ignore what some may call as opportunism by the Spartans but until they put a foot wrong, we'll have to wait and see what unfolds.
Seamus, like you the Socialist Workers Party has never been too fond of Hope Not Hate. The reason for this is they have their own front organisation dealing with racism called Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) which was previously called Unite Against Fascism. The two co-leaders of SUTR are Weyman Bennett and Sabby Dhalu, both known to be SWP members and Weyman a member of the SWP's central committee (SWP is a revolutionary Trotskyist organisation committed to the overthrow of the state and operating under democratic centralism. They opposed the Soviet Union and routinely spout the line that socialism in one country cannot be built and maintained as it requires the advanced western nations to become socialist which arises out of Leon Trotsky's 'permanent revolution', a theory Communists view as cobblers). Back to the article, you make fair point about "spokesperson" named as the author of this article. However, Seamus, I can't help but notice you only state your first name!
For those who don't know about Leon Trotsky's theory of 'permanent revolution' and why Communists hate it so much is explained in the following article by the CPGB-ML, which is one of many flavours of communism in Britain: https://archive.cpgb-ml.org/download/leaflets/trotskyism_20141027.pdf
Just my humble take on the subject. It takes decades to build up harmony between different communities but only a few weeks of disinformation and flag posting to destroy it. As it stands now given the toxic climate orchestrated by the far right ,it will take a strong stance and a long time to heal our communities. Why be weary of each other when honest dialogue can sort the difference?
YAWN!! Racism seemed to be the latest buzz word for just about everything.
If you don’t want foreign criminals being imported or illegally breaking into our country that makes you far right.. I’m really hard far right then
If you allow this national emergency of illegal immigration to continue without doing anything about it this is what happens,I blame politicians in charge of this country for 28 years for this disaster.Your not far right if you complain about this your just normal.
What has come to light is that members of Essex Spartans have a WhatsApp group where they share details of those who are against them. I read that Members of Essex Spartans are VICTIMISING a vulnerable female and sharing her personal details within their group and online. I have seen images of the victim's car being vandalised and note that there is clearly a campaign of intimidation against her. It is wrong to abuse or intimidate a vulnerable female to keep her mouth shut. Our local community is diverse. My concern is that other groups may form to tackle Essex Spartans directly. Do we really need thugs patrolling our streets? Let's not talk about domestic violence, where women and children are not safe at home. Who's looking out for them?
Paul Michaels your comment is not true. I agree that women and children who are exposed to DV in their own homes need protecting but unfortunately there are lots of legalities surrounding entering a property. Victims are often very scared to talk about what they are going through. It's very tragic but the victims need to call 999 if there is an immediate danger, and there are are charities, the National Centre for Domestic Violence are able to provide support and guidance to people experiencing DV. If a person attends hospital and declares they have sustained injuries as a result of DV the hospital should have an Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) who can sign post them to appropriate services. Your comment could make victims feel hopeless and I would ask that you consider what you post.
