Harlow MP Chris Vince: “The Budget will save you £150 each year”
News / Fri 28th Nov 2025 at 08:16am
THE Budget is always full of headlines and big announcements, sometimes so many that it is a challenge to see what any of it actually means for you and your family. That’s why I want to take a moment to highlight one of the measures that will make a real and immediate difference to households across Harlow says MP Chris Vince.

“Energy bills remain one of the biggest worries people raise with me. Month after month, families open their bills with a sense of dread, often finding that costs have increased again without any clear explanation. It is a constant pressure on household finances, especially as we move into the winter months when energy use is unavoidable.
The Government is already taking long-term steps to bring bills down permanently. It is increasing home-grown energy production so we are less reliant on expensive foreign gas, and establishing GB Energy, which will invest in clean, secure British power for the future. These are essential reforms and will help make our energy system more stable and more affordable in the years ahead.
But families cannot be expected to wait years for help. They need support now. That is why I strongly welcome the Government’s decision to remove levies from energy bills. This change will save the average family around £150 a year, with families on lower incomes seeing savings of up to £300. At a time when every pound matters, this will help ease the pressure on monthly budgets.
When combined with other steps in the Budget, the support becomes even more significant. The continued freeze on rail fares will help Harlow commuters who rely on trains every day, preventing yet another rise in the cost of travelling to work. The freeze on prescription charges will also ensure that those managing long-term health conditions are not hit with higher costs.
“Taken together, these measures show a clear direction: helping people with the cost of living, easing day-to-day pressures, and making sure the Budget delivers benefits you can actually feel. By cutting energy bills, holding down travel costs, and keeping essential charges stable, the Government is putting money back into your pocket and offering practical support for households across Harlow”.

I suggest everyone should watch last nights Martin Lewis show to understand this liebour government's policy. There will be no money going back into our pockets due to gas and electricity prices going up in the spring! The only ones gaining are those who just have more children than they can afford!!!!
He takes people for fools, this is going to cost the average worker about 1400, for many it is going to cost them their job. There was an article yesterday about a single mum of 4 with another on the way, getting over 6K a month, that's equivalent to £135K a year before taxes if you actually earned it. This was a budget for the takers not the makers and it is going to end in disaster as it is just not sustainable, suicidal empathy is killing this country.
Sadly that £150 of energy will disappear in the form of tax increases because of the continued freeze on thresholds. Labour have tried to tackle everything, everywhere, all at once and ended up with sausages for fingers.
Sort out the ludicrous and expensive energy pricing in the distribution network where gas power generation sets the price for additional power to the National Grid at exorbitant cost. A leftover of privatisation that extracts huge costs in winter. A Tribune article from 2022 pointed out that nationalising National Grid would save £3.7 billion per year if we brought these energy networks—transmission and distribution—into public ownership. See https://tribunemag.co.uk/2022/04/national-grid-sale-privatisation-climate-crisis
More smoke and mirrors from the Liebour party
Don't stop the medication Chris.
Octopus Energy points out Zonal Pricing in the energy markets could save £3.7bn a year. See https://octopus.energy/blog/locational-zonal-pricing-explained/
Adam if that story is true ,I may as well jump off Clacton pier what's the point of doing anything
It is true https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/skint-pregnant-mum-four-budget-36309267 Thea Jaffe
Probably best he's not a maths teacher any more.
26.9 billion in extra taxes Need I say more
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahabahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
If it's in The Mirror, it has to be true, right? Yes we "might" save on our energy bills but have to provide more funds via stealth taxes to pay for the extra kids the benefits street gang will be having. As Guy says ................ Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahabahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
More utter nonsense from our sheepish Starmer 'Yes Man' so-called MP. The way he is performing, come the next election, he stands to lose his deposit. We need an MP with more backbone than a worm!
Adam , 6k a month isn't 135k a year and she doesn't get 6k in benefits, nearly half of it is from full time work if you care to read it properly
This is absolute nonsense. Fiscal drag will cost the average taxpayer significantly more than £150.
Tim Smith OK she's on 36k a year benefits tax free.if your earning 12501 your taxed. For gods sake is there anybody out there with some sense.
Omg she works full time and gets just over 3k in uc benefits, read it properly, 36k a year from work and benefits
Tim it does not matter it is unsustainable, she should also learn personal responsibility and stop having kids she clearly cannot afford(where is the fathers contributions?). The fact of the matter is she get 6K a month the majority from the tax payer. She has a long history of being in the media unable to afford life, each time another kid seems to pop along. Sorry we should not have to pay for this and I am tired of pretending we do.
Unfortunately work doesn’t pay any more !! Under Labour the only way of earning more money is to sit on benefits, free house free car, more money for each kid they have and when they start school they want free taxis to take them
Mr Vince . You say I will save £150 per year, but you seem to forget as a pensioner my £200 winter fuel payments has been taken away. Your supposed to be a maths teacher you work it out, so tell me how am saving money. Also just watched the news. Robert Peston has just said there has never been a billions of pounds black hole . Liebour have deceived the public just to get more tax to cover the cost of cancelling the 2 child benefits limit.
It is being reported bow there is a £4B surplus not a massive deficit. What is going off with this government are they incompetent or just lying about the state of things to push an ideology.
The latest news appear to suggest that Rachael Reeves/Starmer misled the public and parliament over the "Black Hole" and created an appearance of a financial crisis so they could heap an extra £26 billion of unnecessary tax rises onto the british public so they could appease the back benchers and inflate the welfare state even further. *** From ITV News*** "The Budget on Wednesday followed weeks of warnings from Reeves that she would need to make hard choices, including a period of time in which it seemed likely she would hike the headline rates of income tax to meet her tax and spending commitments. But a letter from the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) published on Friday 28/11/2025 revealed it told the chancellor as early as September 17 that the gap would be much smaller than expected. It later informed her in October the spending gap had closed altogether and that it had even ran into a surplus" So why the dramatic press conference a couple of weeks ago.? Perhaps Chris the maths teacher can explain what Surplus and Deficit mean to the Prime Minister and Chancellor has it appears they have no idea.
Ted it will only be taken away if you earn more than £35,000 this year. I thought you was against hand outs anyway.
We are being turned into Rats in a sack
THE WORKING CLASS PEOPLE ARE BEING USED AS CASH COWS..
This country is in a mess, the standard of politics is even worse, journalism should look at itself and the consequence is child poverty, fuel poverty and food poverty growing. The budget got the rottweilers writing drivel claiming they had the answers to all the problems. Those same rottweilers claimed Liz Truss was a diamond PM with all those "scroungers" and "skivers" should be blamed for that mess forgetting that the majority are living on the minimum wage. It wasn't living it was just surviving. The budget this week had a chance to deliver Change and failed disgracefully. Anyone got a spare ticket to Vancouver!
Jim . Handouts only to the lazy sods that just don't want to work, and scroungers. l don't class winter fuel payments as a hand out , as I have worked and am still working and still paying my quota of tax, and National Insurance up to the age of 65 all my working life. I believe I deserve my winter fuel allowance. What gives the goverment the right to take winter fuel payments from pensioners and give straight to some lazy git who has put nothing into the country. And Jim the Labour party are liars , stealing money from the public when there has never been a black hole, as the Tories kept telling us. Anyone who voted Labour should hang their heads in shame.
So come on Chris Vince, you seem quick to stand up and back everything Kier Starmer and Rachel Reeves says and does . So are you going to back all the filthy lies they have been saying to get more taxes out of the public. I will bet you suddenly become dumb struck.
Wow these comments 🤣 seems the wealthy are finally going to see how it feels. What goes around.
Dave . What do you mean by wealthy. The wealthy only became wealthy because they worked hard. Something the able bodied skivers seem unable to do.
Well said Ted I'm still paying loads of tax age 74 ,OK I'm OK with that but not to fund extra benefits or people breaking the law living in hotels. Also what's happen to 15 years of NI I paid in over 50 years? This country is a farce.
Ted are you suggesting that those who also work hard but not wealthy are skivers? If you are justify that statement. It is of course total BS.
Gary . I feel for hard working people who are not wealthy , I am one of them. I am talking about the lazy skivers who could work but won't because they know how the system works. There is many of them , and that's not BS.
