Chris Vince / Sun 18th Jan 2026 at 02:59pm
HARLOW MP Chris Vince rose on the floor of the House of Commons to express concerns regarding housing conditions in Harlow.
Mr Vince said: “Across the winter months, I have received an increased amount of casework from residents of Harlow who are suffering from damp and mould in their houses.

“They deserve quicker repairs and higher standards from landlords.
Of course, Awaab’s law is to be welcomed, but will the Secretary of State confirm what enforcement measures will be used to ensure that landlords adhere to the legislation?
Steve Reed The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government replied:
“Landlords will face the full force of the law if they fail to comply with regulations that have now come into force thanks to Awaab’s law.
“We expect social housing to get a lot better than tenants have seen over recent decades”.
The council have wasted money on those stupid devices that measure humidity. It’s a waste of money as the naked eye can tell you if there is damp or mould in peoples homes.
What a joke, talks about landlords needing to fix the mold issue yet i am a council tennent with mold that i have to keep cleaning which is difficult due to being disabled. Worst thing we did was elect this moron, and i am not saying that to go against labour, would have happily had another labour MP just not this moron.
Well well well ,Good old Harlow council,I would make a wager that the surveying side on Harlow council are under qualified . Nepotism is rife ! Painter.to surveyor, nou decrying painters . A chef becoming a surveyor ,it's a joke no wonder the information that.is given out to tenants is below what.you would expect . A simple answer to.mould infestation is dehumidifier fans that are activated when humidity rises above a cerian level usually around 50-60% . The. newer types Of fans recover heat that would normally be lost and recirculates the warm air.
The biggest problem within Harlow in regards to damp, is the damp squib that is our mp. As to damp and mold, I normally open my windows just on the latch during daylight hours and avoid drying wet clothes on radiators.
