Harlow fundraiser showcases local talent whilst raising vital funds for anti-racist cause

Entertainment / Wed 11th Mar 2026 at 12:45pm

OVER eighty people enjoyed an eclectic mix of music and politics at a fundraising gig put on by Harlow Love Music Hate Racism on Saturday 7th March.

The audience was treated to some soulful rapping of Hertford based Lewis Sycamore contrasted with the punk energy of Marie and the Meltdowns and Cherry and Peesh. Harlow’s Roisin Quinn performed some beautiful soul and jazz influenced material and the night was brought to a close with a barnstorming set from Neil Gowans and the Winos.

To great applause, Gary McFarlane from Love Music Hate Racism spoke to the audience and explained how the roots of the organisation lay in Rock Against Racism and its importance in bringing together our shared culture and music grown from our diverse origins and influences. He explained how in modern Britain a dynamic cultural mix has forged a common basis for unity against racist attempts to divide and demonise our communities.

The funds raised by the gig will help provide coach travel to the Trades Union Congress backed ‘Together Alliance’ national demonstration against racism on 28 March.

A spokesperson for Harlow Love Music Hate Racism said:

‘This event reflects the commitment of local people to stand together against racism and division, and to show up collectively for justice and solidarity. The atmosphere throughout the night was electric, with the audience responding both to the artists and the message behind the event. The success of the evening demonstrates what can be achieved when music, community, and purpose come together.’

The photo shows a room full of white people. Ironic

Firstly Jamie, you obviously have good eyesight to see that. Secondly, some might say that white people have the most to learn about racism...

Haha. The most racist countries are not actually white my dear friend. You must try better! Although the top 10 most un-racist countries are all white.

A good observation Jamie, one that rather proves the point made before the event that it will be lefty white people convincing themselves that people of all non white colours can't do anything for themselves and need the white missionaries to save them. 80 people? Whose doing the maths, Rachel Reeves. Tomsk, If you are going to have an event with "hate racism" in the title, then all white acts in front of an all white audience probably misses the point ? Still, from what I understand the music was quite good though

A good point from Seamus about white missionaries. It explains why the Muslim community are electing their own as demonstrated by the Gaza Independents. Many ethnic minorities are tired of the white do-gooders policing pronouns and "black ice" whilst real racism in employment, education, housing and especially the criminal justice system goes untouched. Policing pronouns doesn't cost much money. However, good on Love Music for holding the event and what looks like Labour councillor Tony Edwards in the picture, but certainly not 79 others. That's the SWP accounts department at work.

How very dare white people attend an event against racism and raise funds! Disgusting! How very dare them. (Yes, am being sarcastic).
