Ward by ward: Passmores: Jake, Nidhi and Mrs McGee
Elections / Wed 29th Apr 2026 at 07:28am
TO those who are new to these ward by ward guides, they are just a bit of fun.
In many ways, they are crib sheets for the journalists here in order to remember candidates, past winners, percentages etc.

We are not expecting any phone calls from Rallings and Thrasher.
Back to Passmores.
This ward has often been blessed with hard working councillors and so whoever wins, has big shoes to follow.
Tony Edwards (Lab) does a lot of great work in committees.
The councillor who is up for re-election in Jake Shepherd has been an absolute trojan in the last two years.
He is everything you would hope for in a local representative. He really does understand civic duty and responsibility.

Whether it is out in his ward, in the chamber or in other bodies such as the Harlow Civic Society or Parndon Mill. He is almost like a throw back to another era.
If you ask us, we feel that Harlow Labour may need to appreciate his talents a lot more. It comes across that you see his enthusiasm as a problem and not an opportunity. Just an opinion.
Having said all that, he knows it is a very difficult year for Labour. It may be like 2021, when they lost to the Conservatives.

The presence of Reform make this a bit of tricky one to predict. Can’t say we know much about Shirley McGee.
The Conservatives have a solid candidate in Nidhi Hindochi. Nidhi has a real sense of community. A nursery teacher and a key member of the Harlow Hindu Society.
She is also one of those Conservative activists who has worked the wards and a key member of their team.
Here it comes: Yes, Nidhi could really benefit from the Dan Swords Factor and it has gone Tory before (who can remember Ash Malik and Gareth Williams).
This is a real trick one and that is because of Reform.
We think they will sneak it on the rails.
YH Prediction: Reform Gain

Let's get Nidhi elected and progress the regeneration programme.
Hi Mel, I wish Nidhi the best of luck but this is a ward Labour held before the election and one I hope to be re-elected to represent after the 7th of May. Dan Swords and I are the two youngest Councillors on the Council, we have more in common than that which divides us and I've always worked cross-party where there's been a clear benefit for Passmores residents. I'd just highlight this quote: "[Jake] is everything you would hope for in a local representative. He really does understand civic duty and responsibility." I'm asking residents to stand by me and elect a hardworking, passionate Councillor who works with people, not against, putting unity above division. Cheers, Jake Shepherd Labour and Co-operative Party Candidate for Passmores Ward
Jake is a lovely man, with a kind, compassionate and dedicated heart for the people of Passmores. However, I note there was no mention of our Green Party candidate in this Passmores ward by ward article? Stephanie Marsh is a hard working Green candidate and deep rooted in Green values. Her knowledge on political and social issues is astounding! She is a highly valuable member of Harlow Green Party and we are truly blessed to have her in our team. Stephanie will be a true asset to the folks in Passmores.
Note to Editor: as a former Harlow Labour Party member I can honestly say you are spot on with your comment "see his enthusiasm as a problem and not an opportunity". The Old Guard like things done in such a way as to ensure they get elected, regardless of whether they are past their sell by date.
Jennifer Steadman should mention their election strategy is only to do legwork in Mark Hall ward.
Note to Jake: You need to sort out your alarm clock. Community gardening starts at 10:30, not around 11am.
Hi David, absolutely and I'm sorry to have let you down before. I suspect post 7th of May I'll be getting earlier nights and spending less time in the wee small hours doing Casework, so let me put things right and arrange to make the next Community Gardening session - thank you for your understanding and my apologies again! Jen, you're absolutely right, I wish Stephanie Marsh the best of luck - in the current climate it's a courageous thing to put yourself forward on the ballot - and a pluralist democracy is strengthened by more options on the ballot, not less! Thanks for engaging and I may well see more of Jen and David in the public gallery post-May, until then I'll continue putting my best foot forward and carry on fighting for re-election in Passmores. Best, Jake Labour and Co-operative Party Candidate for Passmores Ward
Jake Shepherd would make sound leader of Harlow Labour he is more presentable and sensible than most of the hotheads just playing childish ya bo politics. He is also a very dedicated ward councillor. He would be a far better spokesman than James Griggs and his cronies.
