Harlow MP Chris Vince issues statement after Sir Keir Starmer resigns

News / Mon 22nd Jun 2026 at 09:29am

THE MP for Harlow, Chris Vince has issued a statement following the resignation of Sir Keir Starmer.

Mr Vince said: “I am sad and extremely disappointed by today’s news. Keir Starmer was elected two years ago with a huge majority and had one of the worst inheritance of any Prime Minister, with the economy wrecked and infrastructure like our schools falling apart, after 14 years of Tory mismanagement.

Since then we have stabilised the economy, rescued our NHS from the brink and seen massive investment in our police, armed forces and school estates and begun to tackle the cost of living crisis left by the Conservatives.

“Globally Mr Starmer has shown strong leadership, standing up for Britain on a world stage and bringing NATO allies together to help defend Ukraine.

Of course there is more to do but I know under Keir’s leadership we would continue to address the issues our town and our community faces.

Whoever is the next Labour Leader and Prime Minister I will continue to work with to ensure Harlow continues to get the investment that it deserves.

“I will be forever grateful to Keir for giving me the opportunity to represent this incredible community and I thank him for his service”.

Yes, Starmer really has done a great job 'smashing the gangs' with record illegal Channel crossings. Our Armed Forces are so depleted that we took two weeks to send a frigate to Cyprus after an attack by Iran on British bases there. We have record taxes, growing youth unemployment and both Government debt and welfare spending are spiralling out of control. Our energy costs are by far the highest in the world. Investors and entrepreneurs are fleeing the country. We have had more U-turns than a driving school. Chris Vince is so used to buying Starmer spin, he is no longer capable of discerning the truth. We need a General Election now to be rid of this dreadful government.

We need a GE now, time to get rid of the insanity which is the labour party. its great we have seen the end of the conservatives we will soon see the end of the labour also. bright future awaits for those will to work and contribute.

When Sunak replaced Boris almost all labour MPs including those on the shadow cabinet were screaming for a General Election Funny how those same MPs are so quiet now.

The funny thing now is the conservatives do not want a GE either as they know they will lose a lot of seats too. The funny thing is most ex-MPs really struggle to get jobs again, showing their real value to society - none

I agree with the recent comments . I am sorry Chris but we never see you about the town and what comments you make just seems you have become a Yes man . I don't blame you as the salary must be good. We will have to wait until the next election to find out if you have really got what it takes to be a Harlow MP

Why does he, as well as other Labour supporters continuous mention the 14 years of Tory mismanagement. But in all those years Labour wasn’t able to put up any real credible opposition to them. But when they finally managed to gain power, it didn’t take them very long to put themselves back where they were some 14 years ago in the public eye. Wait until next years council elections to see if their new leader / PM has managed to improve their uk popularity among the electorate.

If we had an election who would win? I suspect we would end up with 4/5/6 parties with a significant number of seats but none with an overall majority. Burnham's election showed that Reform aren't the power they thought they were, in Essex they lost 2 ECC seats to the torys the other day. And would a Scouser unite the North (if I was a Northerner it would positively influence me). Adam doesn't seem to agree with me.

"Keir Starmer was elected two years ago with a huge majority and had one of the worst inheritance of any Prime Minister, with the economy wrecked and infrastructure like our schools falling apart, after 14 years of Tory mismanagement." What a load of tosh, same old same old spiel. For one he promised everything and done nothing, with lie after lie after lie he got his huge majority, he should be banged up. If CV thinks Starmer has done good for this country I pity him.

Chris Vince the puppet, everything your statement said was utter rubbish, Starmer failed that's why his gone, that says it all and yet you continue to follow Starmers incredibly pore politics, it's time for you to also go Chris, you have done nothing for this town but fed of the achievement of the local Conservative councils success, Stand down Chris Vince, the worst MP Harlow has ever had.

I backed the wrong horse once at Cheltenham, totally understand the feeling. If they call an election Labour will still win such is the state of uk politics. The ungovernable country. Still not to worry we have global governance now so we are only really changing middle management

On a serious note note, until we all start to work together things will not get better. Think about it. We all want to get to he same place, we just have different ideas about how to get there

Keir Starmer perpetrated a con trick against Labour members, even before he became the Prime Minister. Starmer's 10 point pledge in the Labour leadership race in 2020 saw him produce a fairly radical agenda largely in accordance with the 2019 manifesto. By GE2024 those pledges had been dropped or whittled down. For those who work in the public sector Starmer's pledge #7 is particularly galling: "Public services should be in public hands, not making profits for shareholders. Support common ownership of rail, mail, energy and water; end outsourcing in our NHS, local government and justice system." See those pledges at https://www.clpd.org.uk/resource/keir-starmer-10-pledges/

Sorry, pledge #5 was public ownership of public services. The authoritarian clampdown on democracy inside the Labour Party and the undeclared big business donations to the faction Labour Together, which was the Pretorian Guard to propel Starmer to the party leadership, is catalogued in Paul Holden's book "The Fraud: Keir Starmer, Morgan McSweeney and the Crisis of British Democracy".

Best of luck with the heir apparent Burnham, chief Brutus in a party about to be taken over by the Manchester Mafia. For all his failings Starmer is a decent man who stood up the Trump, for the latter he deserves the country’s thanks. As for your own tenure Chris, I have to agree with other comments on here, while you’re visible at events runs etc that you choose, you are more widely absent in the town. I actually stood on the Harlow station platform with you the other week. You didn’t say a word to anyone, no good morning, how are you , isn’t it a nice day… even a buzz off and leave me alone would have been something. No, you scuttled off to the farthest point of the platform saying nothing to anyone. Perhaps you now consider yourself above talking to the great unwashed.. but remember it’s is just those people who put you where you are… Not Andy Burnham!! Take note my friend take note…
