Letter to Editor: Is Harlow Council’s Climate Emergency full of hot air?

Dear Editor,
Harlow Council Declare Climate Emergency…
DID you know that Harlow Council are currently upgrading resident’s boilers? The EU insists on electric boilers for new builds; the government has announced its ambitious plans for zero carbon emissions and now the council has declared a climate emergency.
Unfortunately Harlow Council have chosen gas boilers for its boiler replacement scheme as they are cheaper!
How much will the taxpayers have to fork out for this incredible shortsighted approach when everyone will need to be switched over to electric boilers?
Some councils (East Suffolk for instance) have installing ‘Air to Water Heat pumps and PV panels on residents roofs. 2050 is not that far away.
Regards
Dr David Wilkins
Are you sure everyone will need to be switched to electric? as you state correctly new builds yes but i doubt it is retrospective, climate emergency my backside when Thunberg sails a carbon fibre boat across the Atlantic and from what i have read 6 new crew will fly out to bring it back, hypocrites, but then again lot a lot of things it is the little people who end up paying.
"The EU insists on electric boilers for new builds" Can someone provide evidence for this statement. I suspect it's yet another EU-myth, please correct me if I'm wrong. There were some articles earler this year where "A report by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC) says that from 2025 at the latest, no new homes should be connected to the gas grid – with super-efficient houses and flats heated using low-carbon energy instead." Please note: this is our government saying this, not the EU. And it's just recomendations at this stage.
