Cycling: Women’s Tour temporary road closures in Harlow

Entertainment / Sat 21st May 2022 at 06:22am

ON Tuesday 7 June 2022 Harlow hosts The Women’s Tour, a cycle race which will feature some of the best female cyclists in the world.

On the day there will need to be temporary road closures in operation along the route.

Most of these closures will be rolling road closures.

There will be two roads as part of the finish route closed for long periods. However, diversions will be in place to ensure that people can still get to and from their home or business.

All closures are likely to delay journeys or affect the route that residents would normally make. Instead of driving residents are asked to consider cycling or walking if this is possible.

School run traffic will be affected by some road closures, so parents are advised to plan ahead.

As well as sharing this information on social media Harlow Council is writing to residents near to the road closures and schools, businesses, and organisations.

The Women’s Tour road closures are (all times listed are approximate and subject to change):

Abercrombie Way (Between Third Avenue & Pyenest Road) – closed 5am-7pm – this is not part of the route but will be used by the cycling teams.

A1025 Third Avenue (Between Haydens Road & Abercrombie Way) – closed 5am-7pm.

Maypole Boulevard – closed and restricted access 5am-midday.

Newhall Way – closed 8.30am-12.30pm.

London Road (between Newhall Way and Barnfield Way junction and First Avenue/Gilden Way roundabout)– rolling road closure – starting approx. 11am.

B183 Gilden Way – rolling road closure – starting approx. 11.30am.

B1133 Water Lane – rolling road closure – starting approx. 2.20pm.

Katherine’s Way – rolling road closure – starting approx. 2.40pm.

A1025 Third Avenue (between Katherine’s Way and Abercrombie Way) – rolling road closure – starting approx. 2.50pm.

It is hoped that as many people as possible will experience this event and line the roads to cheer on the cyclists as they come through the town.

David, hahahaha 😂 I completely agree with you. Is this what it takes to fix the absolute appalling state of theses roads and foot paths, then yes let's have lots more. Council, a question ,, you want people to cycle then you should fix theses very dangerous pot holes, your focus seems to be on all theses big builds, while local issues are not being addressed. We pay you to sit there, listen to people options.

Please remember potholes are ECC responsibility, not.Harlow.Council. Make.sure you tell your ECC councillor you're not.happy about the state of the roads. But how exciting to have the women cyclists' tour race in Harlow!

It's a bloody inconvenience. They not welcome, we didn't have any say in this. How much is this costing us the tax payer. This money could be better spent. Closing roads just for bunch of upstart cyclists .. and also got the inconvenience of the ride London cycle race. They can all sod off. Hope they all get punctures

The pothole by Abercrombie Way and Third Avenue was filled in (badly) just a few weeks ago and is already showing a new depression. Lets hope no-one on a bike has an accident, but if they do and damage their bike I wonder how they will get on with ECC if they make a claim for damage.

I live in Epping and work in Harlow, this is the second lot of road closures we have had to put up with. First lot on the weekend of 28th & 29th May, virtually locked down. And now this! No consultation. Their advise - cycle to get around! Not possible for everyone.

As an avid non-cyclist (I have no balance or coordination and the seat kills my butt) I welcome the cyclists as long as they don't stop me getting around otherwise please use an alternative route preferably the channel Islands Lots of love Silly Johnny🚳🚷🚦
