Harlow MP raises issue of school students’ mental health

Chris Vince / Fri 13th Sep 2024 at 08:49am

HARLOW MP rose on the floor of the House of Commons in a debate on school students and mental health.

Chris Vince said: “As I have already mentioned in the House a number of times, I am a former teacher, I am married to a current teacher and most of my friends are teachers.

“The mental health of teachers after the last 14 years is at rock bottom. What steps will the Department take to support not just the mental health and wellbeing of our students, which is really important, but the mental health and wellbeing of our teachers?”

Under-Secretary of State for Education, Janet Daby said: “I thank my hon. Friend for making it extremely clear that he is a teacher and has teachers within his network.

“He is right to mention the welfare and wellbeing of professionals and of teachers. I would like to offer him a meeting with an Education Minister to discuss that further.

Ahhh an ex teacher that explains a lot those who cannot teach - as for mental health teachers and education they are responsible for many of these issues as they shut down education for years due to a cold which had little impact on children or most adults for that fact.

Chris Vince is certainly enjoying his five minutes of fame, enjoy it while it lasts.

Some future student mental health issues may stem from them having anxiety over their Grandparents freezing to death in the winter.

Many future mental health issues may stem from children having anxiety over their schools having to shut because they are not safe or are crumbling around them, or because their families are having to use foodbanks, or because they are having to live in unsuitable bed and breakfast accommodation because there is no social housing, or because they are having to wait record lengths of time on NHS waiting lists, or because they are not able to get a GP appointment, or even see a NHS dentist, or because of the fear of crime because of cuts in police numbers... all because of 14 years of Tory imposed austerity.

Unfortunately, for the last contributor, Starmer's government are proving that they are content to continue Tory austerity. The Labour luvvies, who promised Change, will try to convince us that their brown sticky stuff that they shower over the public will smell nicer than the Tory brown stuff.

Chris Vince I thank you for doing just as you promised when canvassing and taking all our concerns to parliament, to raise “people’s” concerns. More power to you.

I’m surprised of the concern from a MP that’s supporting VAT on school fees which will lead to bigger state classrooms therefore increasing impact on teachers
