Cricket: Pre-season round up: A testing weekend for the town

IT was a challenging weekend for Harlow Town CC as we wrapped up our pre-season preparations.
While the results didn’t go our way against strong opposition, the goal was match fitness and time in the middle—and we got plenty of both.

1st XI vs. Sawbridgeworth CC
The 1s faced a very clinical “Sawbo” outfit. Though we were technically bowled out early, both captains agreed to play out the full 40 overs to ensure the boys got much-needed batting practice before the league starts.
With the Ball: Guarang Patel and Ronnie Yates were the pick of the attack, both finding a good rhythm and picking up a couple of wickets each.
The Batting Practice: After the early wickets fell, Ashley Leat (who had originally been left stranded) and Aseem Mohammed took full advantage of the extended overs. Ash batted with great composure for his 40, while Aseem provided some late fireworks with several lusty blows to finish the innings on a high.
2nd XI vs. North Weald CC
The 2s were involved in a high-scoring encounter against a strong North Weald side. Despite the loss, several individuals put in big performances to build confidence for the season ahead.
Bowling Highlights:
Harlow Town worked hard in the field to keep North Weald in check:
Simon Rowell and Rich Lavelle led the way with the ball, both picking up vital wickets to break up key partnerships.
James Ward was exceptionally tight, and there was good support from the rest of the unit to keep the pressure on.
Batting Highlights:
Chasing a competitive target, two Town batters stood out:
Oli Rowell was the mainstay of the chase, showing great intent for a well-played 40.
James Williamson also looked in fine touch, finding the boundary and contributing valuable runs to the total.
