Plea to recycle unwanted electrical goods this Christmas

HARLOW residents are being encouraged to recycle their unwanted electrical goods this Christmas, so they can be used to make new products instead of being sent to landfill.
Over the festive period many households will have replaced electrical goods, either with new models bought as gifts or bargains picked up at the January sales. From hair straighteners and electric toothbrushes to televisions and MP3 players, they can all be recycled.
To remind residents to recycle their waste electricals and not let them go extinct, the Recycle for Essex team’s stunning dinosaur sculpture, Steggy, will be on display at High Chelmer throughout the festive period.
Steggy is made entirely from electrical items taken to recycling centres across Essex. After wowing shoppers last year, he returns to High Chelmer from Tuesday 17 December to Monday 6 January.
County Councillor Roger Walters, Cabinet Member for Waste & Recycling said: “If a new electrical item is top of your list this Christmas, remember to recycle your old ones rather than letting them go to landfill. Nearly all of the materials from your unwanted electrical items can be recycled and used in new products.”
Electrical waste, also known as WEEE (Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment) can be recycled at recycling banks and recycling centres across Essex.
