When Eusebio came to Harlow

IT WAS sad to hear that the famous Portuguese footballer, Eusebio had passed away aged 71.
But for many Harlow residents of a certain age, they will recall the time that (in May 1968) that the Benfica side came to stay at the Saxon Inn (now the Park Inn) in Harlow.
A wonderful photograph has also appeared on Twitter that shows Eusebio in a record store in Harlow.
We think it is probably Startime. As you can see Eusebio is showing great taste as he contemplates purchasing a Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell single.
We will endeavour to see if we can trace the signed portraits that hung in the bar, certainly through the sixties and seventies.
It seemed fitting, that when a YH reporter went to the Park Inn on Sunday afternoon, the receptionist was from Portugal!
