Letter to Editor: In praise of Open Mic sessions in Harlow

Dear Editor,
I’d like to pay tribute to the open mic community in Harlow.
Whether you are a performer or a spectator, these special evenings add up to a great night out in a welcoming and supportive environment.
I hadn’t played guitar in over a decade in my bedroom let alone in front of people before this year but when asked by Cara Sheridan, it felt as natural as breathing to strap on a (low slung) acoustic and electric guitar again in this setting. And I haven’t looked back since.
I’ve heard it all at open mic nights, everything from Guns N’ Roses to The Carpenters via Erasure and Michael Jackson so there’s something for everyone to enjoy in an atmosphere that showcases the very best of Harlow.
To see where the next one is, I’d suggest liking the Facebook pages of as many pubs in Harlow as you can because the open mic concept is growing all the time with new performances and growing audiences.
So come along soon, if you watch or play, for a great evening out.
Jodi Dunne.
